When will the 216570 Exp II get updated?

I have loved this watch for years and I am coming to the point where I might be in the market for one.

But honestly, it seems like they should at least put the new 3285 in it or at least update something.

It's a great piece, but Im just wondering what you guys think...Basel '19?

It's movement has been ahead of the GMT Master II for a while. The 3187 has the paraflex shock absorber

2021 will be the 50th anniversary. It was released in 1971.

No clue if we'll see an update before then. It's anyone's guess.

Seems pretty reasonable to assume a change in 2021 then. 50 is a big one.

People speculate every year that a change is coming for the Explorer II....with good reason. Seems like most everything in the professional line has had an update since the Explorer II was last updated.

I'm of the opinion it's perfect as is so why mess with it.

No one is going to have the answer you're looking for, only blind speculation. If you really love the current model just go for it. Life is too short. If in a year or two they do update the movement you can consider upgrading at a minimal loss. However, keep in mind that depending on how desirable the updated model is, you could potentially be looking at a multi year waitlist regardless.

Is it possible Rolex could discontinue the Explorer II in the next couple of years? Most of the posts about lack of SS sport models include the obligatory "except for a white and/or black Explorer II..." It doesn't sound like it's as hot of a model as any others.

It probably won't get the new 3285 movement anytime soon, just because they have the entire GMT Master line to update first. I'm not an expert, but it doesn't sound like they keep an entire watch model using two different movements for very long, so it might stand to reason that next year they may quietly update the existing GMT Master line to the 3285. Or not. Who really ever knows what they will do?

Although I dig the white dialed EXPII, I would prefer it in 40mm. The 42mm is slightly too big for my 6.5 inch wrists. If they do a 50th anniversary update in 40mm with the new movement? I'm in.

Sounds reasonable. Doubt they'd release one next year just 2 years before the 50th anniversary (a la SD4K and SD43).

well, are the other non-sport models that fill up display cases also in danger of getting discontinued? I don't think so. Regular Explorer I's are pretty easy to come by and I don't think are in any danger of getting discontinued. And while you can find them if you go searching, I still go in some AD's from time to time and see NONE of them on the shelves, so they're obviously selling.

Not that they really NEED to, but I think they could instantly make them more in demand if they just made the bezel functional, although that would cannibalize the GMT Master somewhat I guess.

Not sure when or what, obviously, but I do wonder if they will put a ceramic bezel on it.

I know its a fixed bezel and all, but so was the previous bezel on the Daytonas.

2021 is a good guess for a 50 year anniversary but Rolex does what Rolex does.

Rolex loves the long game. They're never in a hurry. They'll have three years to release other stuff that we want before hitting us in 2021 with more stuff that we want.

I hope they go back to 40mm with a dial closer to the 1655. That would be the bee's knees, as the kids say.
