That's my point. I'm trying to embrace the idea that "is it safe" and " Coke or Pepsi" / discount / Costco threads are here to stay...

But folks can still make good fun of them!
Agree. We all started out as "new members" when we joined. I am a new member.
Some of us are fortunate in life to be able to afford many luxury items. In this case, many high end Rolex watches. But some people saved several years to finally be able to buy an entry level Rolex. To them, this is their baby, their dream come true. The question they asked may seem silly to us (like the Is it safe to wear in McDonald's), but to them, they just want to protect the precious watch that they saved years for.
I love cars and have owned a few decent cars. A few times, I would have someone in the car wash driving a used Mercedes C300 or lower model come and talk to me about my car, saying how nice it is and then started talking about their car, what they have done to it. They are proud and happy. They treat it like a Rolls Royce. I think that's nice. I don't look down on people driving lesser car than me. It is the same way here. I think it is a funny question to ask, but I would never ban or not allow them here just because they care too much about their watch.

Both spellings are correct, the Portuguese spell it Brasil.

The only place I had a problem was Equatorial Guinea when I had an Omega Speedster broad arrow stolen from my room by the maid , my fault I guess for leaving it unattended.

The sickening thing was that she'd have been lucky to sell it for more than $100 there and probably never even knew what she had , I still used to say good morning to her every day afterwards even though I was sure she'd taken it

That reminds me of this...

I live in São Paulo, Brazil, so I am pretty much used to put my watch in my pocket depending on where I go.

Thank you,

I visited Capetown, Johannesburg, and Kruger and never felt unsafe. Like a previous post mentioned just avoid the more dangerous parts of town. Have a great trip, the flight is a bear, but it is well worth it!

I just got back from South Africa and wore a Timex and didn’t take any of my best handbags. We went out for cocktails in Cape Town with a group of well heeled people from SA. All the women had on Rolex’s, all of them. They also had Hermes Birkin bags ($12k), Gucci, and others. Not a care in the world.
