Is shipping insured through the carrier a good idea?

If the parcel delivery guy knows the value, wouldn't they try and take it? Or what if the parcel workers know you have valuables in your house and try to rob you?

I have never disclosed what I'm shipping or insure through the carrier. All of my watches are insured and if something happens in shipping, it will be covered under that policy.

How do you insure it when you're purchasing from an AD and they're shipping it to you? Sorry if this is a dumb question. I'm new to this lol

If u ship USPS registered mail, you can insure for up to 25k I believe. But you never disclose what is in your box. It is none of their business. Nobody has ever tried to rob my house. If they do, I have the resources to send them to the morgue in the back of a hearse.

The AD just said they were using overnight and mentioned that the courier would insure it. However, most couriers don't insure large amounts. Hmm..

Lol. You are right. I do need a deep breath. I've read horror stories about watches being taken out of the box during shipping. And then I'm paranoid that I'm going to be robbed if people know my address

But USPS registered, they must know the value if it's in their system. All they have to do is scan it, right?

Anyone here work for USPS and know how registered mail works?

Hypothetically if the watch is stolen before it makes it to your door, this liability falls on the AD. They better be prepared to ship another piece.

I don't know if I feel comfortable about that. I'd rather have some type of insurance.

Most have a good idea of what’s inside but they generally don’t steal them as they prefer their job to make a livelihood.
I had a pick up of a very expensive small item and asked him a few Qs as he picked it up. He said don’t worry it will all be taken care of. And true to form, it was fine.

The last time I sent a registered mail package insured for around &10,000 it was around $45-$55 to ship it. I now use parcel pro

Yep. Spot on with your pricing here. Just know that USPS Registered Mail takes FOREVER to get to its destination. As such, I’ve since switched to FedEx with Parcel Pro.

I shipped a watch USPS Registered a couple of weeks ago, insured for $17K. It cost about $65. FedEx quoted about $200 over the phone. And it took snail mail just under two weeks to get from CA to NYC.

This. If they are shipping it to you, they have it insured. Now if you bought from an individual, it is up to you before purchasing to make sure the seller is sending the watch insured so that if anything happens, it will be protected. There is zero chance that I would tell Fedex/UPS/USPS that I have a 25k item in that box and also zero chance I would send snail mail and let that box sit for days at various locations. Fedex priority overnight, period.

I've had a Fedex package listed as delivered in the tracking details, but never received them. I was home all day too waiting to hear a doorbell or at least footsteps on the stairs. They never showed up.

Registered mail can be insured for $50k

I use FedEx insured with CGI. If a package goes missing, is addressed wrong or if something like this happens they will correct it.

Correct. The first 25K is included in the shipping price. Additional above 25K is a prorated charge up to 50K. They don’t want to know what’s in it but you do have to write down the declared amount. I’ve shipped to NY and Dallas on 4 different occasions with no problems.

I’m pretty sure that USPS knows what RUSA .......... Dallas or NY means. Hopefully they know, hands off.
