if you have a long relationship with your AD ... Can you still get what you want ?

with all the complaints about not getting hot Rolexes (read stainless steel sports watches) I have a question for those buying these watches since many many years.

The reason is that I don't experience any difficulties and still get whatever I want and pretty fast too. Maybe because I buy at my AD since decades. Grey market is nothing for me. Maybe I could get a better price sometimes but the price is sometimes irrelevant. I prefer a good relationship and today it proves that was the way to go.

Anyway those of you that bought already many years at the same AD, did something change for you? Can you still get what you want or do experience longer than expected waiting lists ?

Or if you are pretty new in this watch collecting world ..What about you ? You get what you want or they tell you it's only for VIP's or you have to wait 5 years or longer ?

I don't have a relationship with an AS, but I do have a long standing relationship with my ASs. Sorry, couldn't resist. :)

I think it's hit-or-miss. Having a relationship can only help in general, but I've heard lots of stories of folks with long standing relationships getting passed over for a new hot watch. There's always somebody else with a better relationship.

I have bought a SubC and a BLNR from the same AD since February 1st this year, and both times I was able to get them on the spot. The BLNR was not in the case but had just come in, and they sold it to me, a fairly new customer. The SubC had been put in the case the day before I visited, and was my first purchase. Some of that is luck, and some of that is a great AD that was interested in helping develop a relationship. And some of it is me stopping by regularly to help develop a relationship.

I really should vote "other". My AD of 15+ years closed two locations and my sales contact left. I had to start over from scratch with a new AD. All that "relationship building" went out the window and left me hunting for what was once easier to get.

Trying to get a specific watch or two for a milestone event has proven near impossible in the current climate. I've been lucky with what they have gotten me but not as lucky as I want.

Have purchased easy over half mil and still no ceramic Daytona. That answers your question.

even though I have a good relationship with my AD, they'll put my name on the waiting list, but I know for a fact the owner's favorite gets higher priority such like their close friends and family, famous people, etc. If I was the AD owner, then I would do the same too. And it doesn't matter how much money you have if AD can't get them in. I know an AD who has a Daytona ceramic in the safe, but it's reserved for a famous actor that visit them every year. No biggies, I use the extra money to make more money while I wait :)

Depends my AD is pretty good in getting me what I want but I also understand the demand for certain watches and that they also may have customer who have spent more then me with them. It is what it is and I may. to like it but thats the golden rule ....the man with the gold makes the rule . hehe

Its not only about AD. Its Rolex who will control the inventory and production. What a AD can do if they are not receiving any watches.

But strong relationship with owner (of AD) do pay off.

I wonder myself. I bought about 4 watches from my AD over say 3 years. In May I asked to get a SD43. I hade it by mid June. That was really good. But, I also put my name on for the Tudor and Rolex Gmt - have not heard anything in either.

Bruno I still get every hot watch I want and very quickly. My AD gives me first crack at them including both 116500's and new 126710. So a long term relationship where loyalty goes both ways works for me.

Do you ever do anything for the AD to win favour? I'm talking gifts/flowers/booze etc.
