For example. In Chicago there is a Rolex only “boutique”. Rolex does not own it, it is privately owned but they sell no other brands. Just Rolex. It is ran by Tourneau and is located on Michigan Avenue. Was opened in 2011 I believe. Marketed as a Rolex store. As a matter of fact 99% of the people that walk by have zero o idea Rolex does not own and operate that store. They operate under a very strict agreement with Rolex (I have never seen/heard of/anyone getting a discount there, even on say a PM watch. Msrp or bust as I was told there many times) Compare that to Razny Jewelers about 6 blocks to their north. They are an independent jeweler who is a Rolex Authorized dealer. But they also sell Patek under the same roof. Marketed under their own DBA. Walk in there looking to buy a PM Rolex and I bet they will work work with you on the price.

This same situation exists in most every major city in the US.

I have a relationship with a small family owned AD in a small town. They sell Rolex, Tudor, Nomos and shinola, Victorinox and Tag. Did have Omega and a couple others that they have since discontinued. Even though they did the multimillion dollar Rolex remodel a few years back and added the fancy VIP room and Diet Coke fridge their supply on the desirable models doesn’t compare to what the supply at a bigger store does. Makes sense, sell more, get more.

But as you stated hardly anyone has any SS sport models anyhow. But when the big guys get hardly any supply these little guys get practically choked out. Have to imagine it is hard to make a living slowly selling DJ and PM pieces. If my guys used Sales were not good I bet they would be in trouble.

Why would anyone pay $18k for a SS Rolex? Just save up a few more weeks and go PM. Rolex isn’t AP or Patek.

No, you are living in the past. In the US this is all new to you and seems temporary, but in other parts of the world this has been going on for over a year and this is the new normal. Huge demand has caused this rise, not just supply, and popular watches are easily outperforming all asset classes, that is why even VIPs are rushing to buy these now as well. And these are not Value plays, who does that any more?, these are typical Momentum plays.

I don’t live in the US. I live between Switzerland, Singapore and HK so pretty well versed in what the “other” markets are doing. So let’s agree to disagree, but I know what I know and you can stick with your views for all you want, it’s all good.

There should be price increase, SS Sky-Dweller is too cheap.

Some stainless PP Nautilus is 45000 with similar movement and is so fragile it can hardly survive from hitting it hard to a desk.

They should definitely raise the Daytona to at least 20K. The Royal Oak Chronos are selling for 24,300 and isn't nearly as desired as the Daytonas. Just MHO

I doubt Rolex will increase prices given the troubles in Europe, the Near East, pretty much the rest of the emerging world.

Just look at Turkey right now. The US very nearly ousted Erdogan in a coup, then Erdogan normalised relations with Moscow, and then Erdogan sent troops to Qatar to help stop a Saudi invasion.........

I'm so glad the powers-that-be in my neck of woods know better and are not escalating tensions with the US. The world is a mess.

February came and went; what they really meant to say is that there would be a new BLRO and it would be selling for $20,000 at grays!!!

February 2019? Or any other February ahead?
For sure there will be an increase sometimes in future, but when precisely i am sure just a few people on Rolex know. Such a leak of info is simply not possible as that would even further decrease availability of SS models and PM as well.
So what you were told or heard is true a part of the precise timing when it is gonna happen.

I have to think this level of price increase is highly unlikely given how strong the USD has gotten. It would require Rolex to put in a massive price increase elsewhere given that they try and keep global pricing consistent.

If I were you I’d buy as many platinum Skydwellers you can get your hands on for $20K.
