Houston area watch shops

Got a business trip to Houston next week and I'm hoping to find some time to sneak away to check out some watch inventory. I'm most interested in lucking into a 114270 or 214270 MK I, but I'm open to seeing if anything pre-owned/vintage might sing to me.

Looking for recommendations for reputable non AD shops or ADs that also sell pre-owned.

Hal Martin will have the best selection for pre-owned modern pieces, can't recall if they do much vintage. There are a few jewelers that are not AD's that sell pre-owned Rolex but usually they don't have much inventory. Reiner's Jewelry is one, Shaw's is another. Shaw's markets itself as a Pawn shop but it's really a jewelry shop that buys and resells watches. It isn't like the shop on Pawn Stars.

My AD rarely sells used, unless it's a high demand piece, Deutsch&Deutsch One AD off the beaten path is Karat22, but it's worth calling them first to see if they sell pre-owned, I don't recall seeing any there but it's been well over a year since I visited them.

Friendly advice: Be careful with Hal's. I've seen them try and pull some shady moves with aftermarket non-Rolex dials and bezels. Others think they are great. They will have the biggest selection, just ask a lot of questions. Make sure that Sub 50th Anniversary (Kermit) isn't a regular Sub with an after market green bezel. And that DSSD Deep Blue dial is an authentic dial. I could go on but you get the picture.

They do watch repairs too, but not being an AD I don't know where they'd get legit Rolex parts, so if you buy have them open it and show you the movement is all Rolex.

Thanks for the very detailed response! I’ll make Hal Martin a priority and per your advice, I’ll be careful before laying out any funds. At a minimum, it will be nice to try on some elusive models back to back.

Hal Martins for pre owned. Thomas Markle is a reputable AD located just north of Houston in The Woodlands. Not sure what inventory they have right now.

x2 on Deutsch&Deutsch. I use them and they overnight to my local Deutsch&Deutsch(Laredo). They get pieces a lot faster than my local AD.
