I personally would wait and save the cash. You essentially already bought it for your birthday - giving the deposit and having funds set aside for it. Even if it comes a month later, you can say you got it for your birthday. If it was something really rare, I could see paying extra for it, but it is not in my opinion.

This unexpected opportunity came to get now for $850 more + 4 hrs drive

I am fully aware there's risk involved with relaying solely on AD#1 in case he does not come through by end of month as promised...

You’re going to be kicking ourselves if you buy it, and the other guy calls before your birthday. I would just give him a call, and kind of tell him the situation if he reassures you again I would say wait..

This works too Did it w/ mine 2 weeks ago. But you will still pay at least 100 round-trip in shipping.

Cheers.

Have any friends in CT or NJ that can receive the watch for you to save the tax? That’s assuming the AD doesn’t have locations in those states.

I have friends in CT but AD has multiple locations in NY/CT and must collect sales tax

One of the best pictures I've seen of the BLNR. Damn that's sweet. I really need to see one of these in person soon.

Half the fun is waiting.. well at least for me.

Best with your decision
I weirdly agree.....I guess I'd say it's a love/hate for me. It's brutal waiting but the payoff is that much better. The worst is the last hour waiting for FedEx.

I also find the hunt and research of your next model to be a lot of fun too.

Is 21 days worth $850... is it worth waiting 3 weeks saving $40 per day to have the same item in the end? How guaranteed is the 3 weeks?

I always say never give up a guaranteed thing now for a possible thing in the future. Either way it sounds like you'll have a terrific watch!!

I would get it today. Just because you left a deposit doesn’t mean that they can get it for you 100%. What if June 30 comes around and they say “sorry, it didn’t come in”? I’d say go for it!

It doesn't make sense to let go the one I put deposit on either way. It's the matter of do I buy one I can today for $850 more + 4hr drive as safety if the original AD doesn't come through or I just wait for original one

I would wait out the original one, but find peace with it perhaps not getting to you in time for your Birthday.
If you are rolling in cash, you could get both, but by the time the second comes in, the used price may have dropped.
Additionally watches don't flip themselves. You have to factor in the time spent and nerves frayed selling it privately or accept whatever price a dealer may offer. To me, that's not a good return on tying up that much money.

Just get both. You can easily flip one the next day as BNIB and make at least $2,000 easily

Just spoke to AD I left deposit with — He said he put in a special order for my BLNR and saw in system my name is there. He gets shipments every 2 weeks and it did not come in this week’s shipment.

He cannot make promises that it will definitely come in next shippment, but said if Rolex has it, they will ship to him bc this is special order in system.

Do you guys think this is bs, or he’s just honest and really waiting for watch to come when Rolex has it?

I do not understand this whole mania about SS watches, a fear of missing out (on what really? :) ), a must have kind of obsession...

Not related to the OP, but generally speaking. :)

Why are you setting an artificial deadline for the watch? You’re creating unnecessary stress for yourself.

The AD can order, but that doesn’t mean Rolex will fulfill within your timeframe. Just enjoy your birthday and get the watch when it arrives. It’ll be like your birthday all over again when you get the call.

Is the original AD a magician? Does his brother work for Rolex? He can’t guarantee you anything other than some day in the future, he’ll get one Since you left a deposit, you’re probably high on the list. Are you the only one who’s left him a deposit for one? Are you the highest on his list? I’d get the one that you can get and if the other comes up, buy it on credit and sell it if need be. I’d buy the one I could find first.

I have to agree. They are mass-produced watches. Nothing unique. Sure, I like Rolex watches and have quite a few, but let’s keep it in perspective. It’s just a watch.

I would love to take the other one your passing on for tax purposes, if you don’t mind putting me in touch with AD an introduction would be appreciated if that’s something your willing to do for a forum member.

I do have a Bavarian in my avatar doc!

beating the state out of $850 is a glorious thing; whenever it's in you watch case you should set it to that time.
