Discovering Laser Etched Crown

After having a Sub for a month, I just realized there was a Laser Etched Crown in the crystal. Looked at these watches for years and had no idea! Very little discussion on this counterfeit measure as well.

Hahaha I love that laser etched crown. It’s hard to find and every couple of months a post comes up with another persons surprise that its there. Love the joy this small marking brings :)

I could never find the crown on my original crystal, but the new crystal (that was installed by the RSC) was found very easily!

The good counterfeiters have been adding the LEC to there watches for years in attempt to trick first time lookers... they have gotten so good that they have even copied the 3135 movement with colored gears

It was all 'off', but like you say, for a novice this stuff can be dangerous.

That is quite terrifying indeed. What happens when the line between authentic and counterfeit virtually disappears? Crazy to think about.

Does the new 'crown' replace the LEC?

The counterfeiters will have to put their prices up!

Discovering Laser Etched Crown

In mines it is a lot easier to find in some versus in others. On my OP 116000 (random serial) and Sub 16610 (S serial, has it after getting a new sapphire crystal, not a feature on S serials at the time) easier to find versus on my Explorer 16570 (Y serial). My DD 18239 being older (A serial) does not has it. It is a very cool feature!

Is there be a gray market for these counterfeits?

Are they driving up prices?
