Datejust Question Regarding Possible Updates
Hello All,
First time poster here but I've been reading the forum for a couple months. Thanks to everyone who posts here. I've learned a ton of great info that would have taken longer to learn elsewhere. And of course, I love everyone's photos showing the wide array of watches out there. I have recently taken an interest in watches, and just purchased my first automatic timepiece last month. I wanted something nice, but not too expensive, to try out before spending more money on a true luxury watch. I went with the Seiko Sarb 033 and, of course, loved it. I have a small wrist (6.5 - 6.75) so the 38mm fits me well. With that said, the watch that got me interested in the first place is the Datejust. A while back, I randomly came across a photo of the 36mm Datejust with silver stick dial (fluted bezel, jubilee band) and thought it was one of the classiest watches I had ever seen, and something that would look great on my small-ish wrist. I have been researching the current model (116234) and keep seeing references on TRF, but no details, to possible changes to the current model, including dumping the current hidden clasp. Can anyone provide any details about the expected upcoming changes, or perhaps point me to an existing thread/article? I wasn't able to find anything myself. My original plan was to pull the trigger on the 116234 next year, but if the expected changes are not to my liking, I would make the purchase sooner rather than later. Thanks in advance to any info anyone can provide! |

I think dumping the concealed clasp on the DJ was a huge mistake. I would wait to see if they bring it back first before buying one.

I agree with this. I would try to get one with a hidden clasp.

Yep do this. Rolex often updates their product lines in stages with two-tone prior to stainless. The changes in the two-tone DJ36 this year will likely hit the stainless version next year. If you want the hidden clasp you should buy before next Basel. If it was me I’d buy this year’s version as I prefer the look of the hidden clasp on jubilee.

I do not like the hidden brooch. The classics are with seen brooches

The hidden clasp has no easy adjustment. Easylink, which the braclet with the clasp does have, so its swings and roundabouts, buy whichever you prefer.

Hi mate, yes very likely.
As some guys mentioned above, when the updated SS DJ36 is released Rolex will update the movement in line with the most recent TT (Basel 2018 release) No way to be certain if that releases 2019 but quite possible - if not the year after. On the clasp, I much prefer a non hidden clasp - somehow feels more “manly” and IMHO a 36 on a Jubilee needs a bit more “man” to it, plus it’s the classic! Try some existing models with both clasp styles when you can and see what you think... Cheers, J |

I'd definitely love to have the 3235, but I'm leaning towards the hidden clasp jubilee.
Anyway, you all have given me more to think about. Thanks! |

I like the subtle, updated lugs of the new Datejusts but don't like the removal of the hidden clasp. If Rolex could at least design a clasp that matches the Jubilee I might reconsider, but taking one from an Oyster bracelet and grafting it onto a Jubilee like they did with the new BLRO just seems lazy.

The Jubilee bracelet more often then not had a clasp. The President bracelet has a hidden clasp historically. I personally like the modern clasp with the EZ link adjustment. I use it all the time. I think if they could make the Crown Clasp with the EZ link adjustment it would be great, but until they do I prefer the adjustability. Especially in the summer.

You should pick the 41mm instead of 36mm. The DJ 41mm seems more beautiful because it's bigger, let you see and enjoy with more feeling.
