Price Thoughts?

I have a friend of mine who is selling his 116710 G Serial for $7000 this includes Box & Papers. What do you think the future holds for the 116710 watches? Would it be a smart investment?

I have been looking at these for some time but I can't decide. So I am coming to you guys for advice.

I would buy the watch if you really love it. Don't look at it as an investment. Good luck.

Best advice really. If you like it, want it and consider the price reasonable - buy it.

Anything about future value is mere speculation.

That is a really good price given the current market. I would take it if I were you. The future is good but more for the BLNR. The black 116710 will of course keep appreciating over time like any steel Rolex but more along the lines of the regular black Sub Date and ND. You can look at the prices of espresso 16710s vs. Cokes and Pepsis. The buy/sell spread is about $2200 now with an average $8000-8200 price. With this new generation it is just not possible to easily modify the watch to make it look like the BLNR or BLRO. The hand would need to be swapped in addition to the expensive ceramic bezel unlike a quick aluminum bezel swap. In fact most 16710 Pepsis for sale out there were probably espressos or even cokes. There is no way to know for sure unless it comes with the original papers with A,B,N or with a serial check.

The current gen GMT Masters are really, really nice. I think they got the biggest improvement from ceramic, maxi dials and cases out of the whole lineup. It looks and feels like a completely different watch compared to the 16710s. So much so that I would've called it the GMT Master III but they only made the name change over the 1675 because of the quick set hour hand movement vs quickset date.

If you love the watch, buy the watch. If your looking for an investment, buy stocks.

Is this your website?

Watches are not generally regarded as good investments, nor is this an appropriate topic.

Usually they are not, but steel Rolex sports, Patek and most steel AP certainly are. The worst you can do is break even in the future. There is really nothing else that you can wear and use and not lose any money on if you buy wisely. Usually the worst you can do is that they keep up with inflation. Anyone who bought a Sub, GMT or Daytona in the '60s-'90s is certainly better off today. Of course they're not as good as blue chip stocks of AAA bonds. I won't mention crypto because the level of volatility is just way too high. Whoever got in from the beginning made a killing but it would be crazy to get involved today without having lots of experience.

If you have to ask a forum about Rolex, then buy it :) . You can't be wishy washy about "investment". Make your own decision and learn from your mistakes in life.

You have already had two threads removed and received infraction points from admin for repeated posting about prices and investments and your watch business. You should stick to general watch discussion if you want to stay on here.
