Several people have suggested to check the seals annually. Why is that? Why would Rolex offer a warranty for 5 years if the watch needed annual checks?

How much is it to get the seals checked and where can it get done? My experience with the local ADs has been miserable, they don't seem to do anything in house and they're all eager to charge $150 to send the watch to an RSC. Whether I can "afford" this has nothing to do with it, it seems like a ripoff.

Over 10 years:
- $150 shipping, let's say $100 for the "seal check"; 10x = $2500
- $900 5 year check up, twice = $1800

That $8k watch suddenly became a $12.3k watch.

No. I think I'll just wear my watches and send them in when something doesn't work

If an AD doesn't have an in-house watchmaker, don't even consider them for service issues.

Find one that does or just write or call an RSC and they will send you instructions for mailing in your watch, and as I understand it, they will provide mailing labels and such.

I got mine serviced at 5 years a couple of years ago. It was a little because that was the recommended interval then, but if I'm honest mostly because I wanted it looking like new again.

My other watches, they have had a service in 5 years or less, because they needed it. Or to put it in a crowd pleasing way: They are not a Rolex!

Nope. I’d have to be a saturation diver for that. I have a DSSD, it’ll be five years, and I open water dive.

Rolex "10 year service intervals"

Oh my. If you follow the care guide they are good for 10 years even if you dive every day. It’s all trivial

I only send in a watch for a service if it needs one. If they are still functioning fine after 20 years I don’t see the need.
