Rolex Day-Date Date Change
Dear All,
I was setting my Day-Date today, and it was just past midnight when I moved the hands back. Obviously the Day and Date didn't change backwards. So I moved the hands forward and did it the right way, by cycling through 24 Hours. Then I adjusted the Day and Date by the Quickset function. The Day and Date now switch over about 2 minutes before midnight. Have I messed up something in the movement? Or should I not worry? Before the Day and Date would change a bit after midnight. Best Luka

Here is a link to a manual I found: https://content.rolex.com/content/da...ay-date_en.pdf
On Page 10 it says following: Setting the time (position 3): the crown is unscrewed and pulled out to the second notch. The seconds hand is stopped, allowing you to set the time to the precise second. To set the hour and minute, turn the crown in either direction. To avoid confusion between a.m. and p.m. hours, move the hour hand to 12 o’clock. If the date changes, it is midnight. Avoid changing the date or day after setting the time in a counterclockwise direction between 4 p.m. and 10.30 p.m. I assume that in this case my watch should be fine, I moved the hands counterclockwise to about 11:55pm or so, and then back clockwise until the date changed, only then did I proceed to use the quickset feature.

2 minutes before or after midnight is nothing to worry about and perfectly normal.

i can explain further if you want, there are lots of similar topics if you do a search. when you apply the hands, you want them to align perfectly at midnight (all 3 hands, 4 on a gmt). on top of this you want to do that at the precise time when the system to release the date and day is actioned. there is always a little slack in the gears, so that makes it nearly impossible to have the date flipping at midnight precisely. even 5 minutes before or after is normal, this is the nature of a mechanical watch.
