Sub Date VS Sea Dweller pic request

I know, I know, another SD4K vs Sub thread. I promise I have searched high and low, but have not found what I am looking for.

I just can't make up my mind on which I want to purchase as my first and I'm sure only Rolex. I like everything about the sea dweller better, but am concerned about the thickness and being a discontinued
model, I cannot easily get my hands on one to compare.

If anyone has both, would you mind posting a wrist shot while maintaining the same perspective, distance and angle that shows the thickness of each as a comparison.

Matt dial, lack of cyclops, bezel indices, slimmer lugs and crown guards all win in favor of the sea dweller so no need to debate those, but feel free to chime in on anything or post pics regarding thickness.

Beautiful pic WMW.

I have the 50th anniversary and have a hard time going to my GMT II as I love the thickness and how it sits. It is in my everyday watch rotation and my GMT II is taking a seat on the bench. haha

Thanks! That is exactly what I was looking for. The SD4k and SD43 are both 15mm right? Any possible way I could get that same pic without the bezel protector?

That’s correct. Unfortunately I can’t as that pic was taken a few months ago prior to me trading in the Sub.

From a google search on sd4k vs SubC, came across this pic. Not sure if it helps.

I’ve never owned or even tried on a SubC date but I do own the SD4K and it is a great choice!

Thanks guys! Keep them coming. Would really like to see pics like these with a SD4000. How is the perceived difference in height?

I went from a sub to a 116600 and it felt tall for about a day. After that it just felt right. Both are great and very comfortable. If you spend the extra for a Sd4k you can always make the trade down given current pricing.

Side by side SD4K C 116600 and Sub C Bluesy.
Heft is close because of the gold in the TT but
SD4K sits a lil bit higher . Also I’d say the SD4K C
is slightly more comfortable on the wrist but either
are comfortable...

DSSD wears larger, but its one of those pieces that if you've got the wrists (and even if you don't) is such a cool piece to wear. Its THE king of Rolex Divers.
And by modern standards, it's not really out of the norm regarding sizing.

Size wise they are basically identical in all dimensions other than thickness. Yes the lugs are more tapered on the 116600 but the end link to end link length is all but identical.

The best pic to compare thickness is this one below. Depending on how and where you wear your watches, the thicker caseback of the SD4K may be less of an issue than it appears here. On my wrist, for example, the cashback sits between my wrist bones

These are comparing the 43mm 126600. The op is asking about the discontinued 116600

Nice pics. Unlike the pre-ceramic versions, the new SD is considerably larger to the Sub so unless you are prepared for that I would stick with the Sub

I have actually seen those pictures on Horobox, but you brought a point that I have been wondering about. I know the bezel, case and case back are all thicker on the sea dweller with the case back being a big portion of the overall increased size. How much of that case back is absorbed by riding between the wrist bones.

Devildog is correct that I am comparing the Sub to the discontinued Sea Dweller 116600. The pics of the SD43 helps when looking at the height difference, but makes it hard to judge because of the overall increase in size.

I am probably overthinking all if this. Just want to make sure I make the right decision the first time. Everything about the sea dweller is calling my name but the height.

Well said!

Once it hugs your wrist, it feels so right.

I debated the same and decided that I can get my hands on a sub any day, but I had the opportunity to buy SD4K from an ad, and I went with it and never looked back.

With the shortage, sure subs are not in a display case, but still easily obtainable in the US. And so many more made.

I just received a SD4k...... wanted something different but one that i could wear every day (pool, beach, hunting, office.....) i was concerned about the height too but to be fair its perfect for me. I have never seen one in the wild which makes if feel a little special. I don't baby my watches, this feels like a tank which is great.

Hahahaha. I’ve seen a couple in person but seeing it next to the Sub and the SD it really shows how much bigger it is than those two. There are similar and larger size watches out there for sure.

The sub is 12mm thick, while the SD4k is 15.5mm thick. I have both a 619 and the SDc and while the latter wears great, it IS considerably thicker. Not an issue for me, but YMMV.
