Is there place in a clollection for the same model in steel and gold?
I got my first rolex, a 114060 ceramic no date a year ago, and im loving it. I want my next acquisition to be something a bit more formal and it should have some yellow gold in it. My short list includes a Breguet on leather and a Speedmaster moonphase in gold. I was wondering if a Blusey should also be on my radar? Or will it be redundant in the long run and ill just lose interest and sell it?

if those 2 are your options have you considered an oysterflex daytona?
also personally i'd pick a bluesy over the 2 you mentioned |

Absolutely! I'd be shocked if most people who have / had a gold sub didn't also have a steel one as well.
That being said if you're only planning on a 2 or 3 watch collection then you might want a little more diversity than 2 subs. A Daytona or another chrono would be nice. |

I have both a 116710ln and a 117618. It just kind of happened that way where I had the 116710 first. It works fine, but I’m working to pivot my SS piece to a 116500

i wouldn't do it. Only because there are so many watches i would love to have, spending PM money to double up on the same model is something i couldn't justify. I would get whichever i liked best, Steel or PM and then get a different watch for the other watch.
The only exception is if the watch is considerably different (including bracelet). SS daytona on a bracelet and a YG OF daytona for example. A sub in PM and a sub in SS, no. I am guilty of doubling up on GMT's but only because one has a colored bezel and a jubilee and the other doesnt. If one was PM, with PM prices i wouldn't have don't that.

Depends on your collection size. If it's small, I think a ND Sub and YG or TT Sub is bit too redudant. I would keep the ND Sub and for YG consider either a DD40 or Daytona (either full YG or Oysterflex). If the collection is already large and varied, then who cares about a little additional redunancy, just get the bluesy.

I have had my 14060 since December 1990. I have always wanted to get a TT blue sub at some point, and then I would have a collection :)
The TT would be pre ceramic since I prefer the colour of the aluminum dials. I find the blue on the ceramic does not seem to match the blue dial. So for me, a TT Sky dweller with champagne dial and then the TT blue. |

I would try other models first, yes you may emerge as a sub guy but I'd date some more before settling down.

At one point I owned all of the Submariners in each metal. It was a Submariner collection but it got a little boring after a short while. I would get the TT Submariner in blue and enjoy. A two watch or even a three watch Submariner collection is nice as the watches wear great.

This is one of those things that doesn't work out on paper, but in fact, may very well be your perfect solution. It's all about you, and what you want out of your watch collection.
I know this much. Out of all the PM watches out there, the gold sub is very, very close to the top of the heap, IMO. Oh I know...the horrors of having two subs. |

Hard to argue with this. I like the GMT more but Sub is definitely a close 2nd.
