Yes, but the Sub has Glidelock, which provides its wearer the freedom to size the bracelet perfectly. And you can't put a price on freedom. (Actually, I hear Rolex charges $1300 for replacement freedom, but why mess up a good platitude with facts?)

They could both into one watch but then people wouldn’t buy both.

It's a pretty subjective question, but as someone that doesn't dive (and probably wouldn't with a Sub out of fear of something happening to it), I would use the GMT function and rotating bezel so much more. So the GMT is more functional to me and the movement is more complicated and interesting. Plus, overall it has the same "iconic" shape and features that people think of when they think Rolex.

I walked into my local AD April of this year and they had a black GMT and a black Submariner with date. Yes, April of this year and not April of 2013. I was so torn between the two. I chose the GMT because I liked the polished center links and the bolder numbers on the bezel. However if I didn't already have the Explorer II with a fully brushed bezel I probably would have chose the Submariner.
I say all that to say, that it really is personal preference combined with what else is in your collection. |

Every collection needs at least 1 sub and 1 gmt period. :)

If I’m diving, I’m not using the sub for timing. Or SD43 in my case. I dive with my GMT rather than leaving it on deck. But I’m not using it for time.

Expensive, but some like me can get best of the both worlds... GMT IIc on Subc glidelock bracelet... The way GMT IIc should ship with to begin with...

Not everyone would agree with you... on some wrists glidelock wears big and some prefer the gmt / easy-link style clasp. It would be nice to have a clasp that combined the two attributes - short clasp w fine adjustability. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |
