I like the JLC of those specific choices

I like the JLC options. There is always a Patek Calatrava :D.

I’ve kicked around the idea of a Patek, but the discount on the Cellini is really attractive, especially since I’m not a flipper.

Why not a compromise between a few of these options? That shiny Rolex Cellini with a moonphase is a killer...

I think it’s a great value too, but I like the simplicity of the time model. To be honest, I would probably take any of the new Cellini line watches if the price was right.

Gents,

I know this is an older thread, but I've really been doing my research and trying to figure out what to do. I think I have it down to two options:

1. Keep my Rolexes and add the JLC Master Control with date. Not the sector dial, but the standard issue.

2. Unload my GMT and step up to the Lange Saxonia. So 2 Rolexes and the Lange.

The Saxonia was not on my radar because I assumed Lange's in general were way out of my price range. But after enough folks recommended it, I looked into it and it's actually in range, especially used.

I have to say, this could be one of the most stunning watches I've come across. Second only to the 1815 which is probably a tad out of reach at this time. I'd love any further comments/pictures of the ALS Saxonia and the JLC Master Control with Date (non-sector dial).

Thanks,

Mike

Under 8k, I would go NOMOS. Pick up a couple for under 8k! I love the JLC moon phase everyone is posting, both dials are beautiful. The only thing I don't like about the sector dial JLC is the hands, otherwise I LOVE it. If your not into NOMOS I would go GS, they really cant be beat for the price. If you can swing more cash, the Lange saxonia is (in my opinion) the ultimate dress piece.

In that price range I love JLC reversos.

I'll definitely check out NOMOS Aaron. It's really fun checking out new brands. It's a whole new world when you do. On the JLC I'm looking at the non-sector dial. I like the sector dial too, but I feel like the standard MC date is a little more upscale.

Sure it’s not ALS Soxonia Moon - but hey, for a 1/4 of the price it will do given the wrist time I give a dress watch! Plus my collection is getting Rolex heavy A so wanted a change.

I'd encourage you to look at the Grand Seiko line too... superb finishing, chronometer+ specs, and great value (relatively speaking). I have the SBGR261G model w/ ivory dial, and love it.

Have a close look at the JLC Master Control. A very timeless/classic look. The carved dials and signature sides of the Breguet are really classy as well. I'm struggling with a formal watch selection myself and these are the two in first place for me at the moment.
Good luck

Will do! I don't know GS well, so I'll give them a look. Thanks!

Obviously the trend these days is towards sports watches. I love my Rolexes, but I also feel like I can get a significant amount of use of a dress watch. In general they seem like a bargain for what you are getting.

JLC Ultra thin Moon is a fantastic watch.

I'd go for the JLC just to be different tbh... Rolex are rather ubiquitous. JLC you've got an interesting story to tell... plus you get to pronounce it properly "JE - JER LE COULT"

Jaeger LeCoultre - besides the fact that it’s a badass watch, it’s really fun to say.

Vintage Rolex are growing on me as incredible dress watches. A 5500 King Air will be belliw your budget and it will be a unique piece.
