Update on the GV being Recalled...
I posted not to long ago about the Milgauss gv being recalled...the watch being limited is not due to non availability and about a leak on the crystal...i went to mayors jeweler today and it happens that the VP of the company was there doing his rounds of the store in boca...i spoke to my agent with the VP of mayors and ask again the question...he told me it wasnt a leak that made the first production of GV being recalled..it was the color of the green crystal that they cant seem to perfect...he told me some of the colors of the green crystal are not the same..they told me that Rolex grew their own crystal and it seems that the first GV made crystals are not the same as the 2nd production...this made Rolex ask all the first shipment to be sent back to the company and perfected it...They told me ordinary people might not notice it but people from Rolex do....I guess they are that anal about Perfecting the Timepeice of the World...

I was just there and apparently it is not common there. I went to a very large Grey Dealer at Tsim Sa Tsui and he was wearing one himself. maybe you'll have luck at grey dealer unless you only want one from AD with your name on the warranty card.

Heaven knows that Rolex will never admit to a manufacturing problem by themselves. The first crystals kept catching fire in the machinery they use for manufacture once that was fixed they made tons of them and flooded the market with the green milgauss, period end of story. Anything else is a cover-up.

Sorry, but I'm not familiar with what this is about. Does it mean that the early batches (M serial) were recalled but the later ones (V serial) are OK? Is it really that difficult to tint sapphire crystals green? Or is this just another urban myth like the Milgauss GV and LV Sub being limited editions?

There are a heck of a lot of them on the market. The high price of 14k has now come down to 6k. I suspect it may not be a flood but definitely more than a trickle.

Your not looking hard enough. Flood doesnt have to be a monsoon wave As has been said, when first released I saw one sell for $19k now you can find them below list, I call that a flood. Where's the exclusivity or scarcety in that?

As already stated here we go again.
No one has ever reported their GV had to be sent back or re-issued with a different crystal, not just on this forum, but anywhere on the internet. Back when the watch was first released the low numbers were always attributed to the difficulty in the production of the crystal i.e. only 1 of every 3 made complied to the required specifications. No reported cases of a GV ever having a water resistance problem. AD's have all kinds of interesting theories and stories why they do or do not have stock. This one seems like great one to divert a prospective purchaser towards a model that they do have in stock when they can't supply a GV.

I saw a GV in person for the first time a few weeks ago (it was reserved for another customer). The rep knew nothing about the watches being recalled but did state that the "official" line from Rolex concerning the original scarcity was due to problems with the fragility of the green crystal in the initial batches. Whether this is true or not...who knows??? J |
