17k for 1675 GMT with Fuscia Bezel , what do you think?

Hello, I am in the middle of negotiations for the 1966 GMT Master with Fuscia Bezel insert. The dealer wants 17k, she has a customer who offered 15, I offered her 16k but she is not bulging from the 17k price. What do you guy think? 17,000 is too much or just about right? Would love to hear your thoughts because I am debating with myself.
Thank you.

Well..
What a difference a thread makes...
Your last thread in trying to "steal this deal" is not going to happen based on the offered price.

Price is too much..

Pretty significant polishing on lugs and bezel, and the lume on the hands looks iffy. So overall it's only a so-so example; you'd really have to LOVE the bezel to offer even $16k. I wouldn't have done that.

Sometimes it seems like prices are going crazy, but other times it feels like the market is getting a bit soft for ordinary matte dial examples. A decent one just sold in a no-reserve eBay auction for just under $10k. Personally I don't think this is a good time to overpay.

I don't play into the bezel insert game. Blueberry, fushia, the cost is out of whack. I think its too much and the inset isn't even perfect. Not to mention, there are many many provable ways to fake insert patina's. For me, its too much to deal with and too much risk.

I wouldn't give it a second glance even if the insert was perfect , the over polishing on the lugs & bezel just scream NO to me .

Not that I’m even on the subs bench but I totally agree with you, it’s madness what people value these inserts at.

The dealer has suddenly woken up hasn’t she? The other day she’d “got it for free almost” and wanted you to tell her how much it was worth, now it’s suddenly £17k! Did the “got it for free almost” mean she had someone’s pants down? Hopefully not.

The value of these old watches has come about due to careful ownership over many years and a Watch that’s aged with it’s owner. I don’t actuall mind the owners getting a payday but it kind of sucks to think of someone who’s looked after this Watch for years gets ripped off by a ‘dealer’. Let’s face it, if she was any sort of dealer she wouldn’t be asking a random customer what it’s worth!

That is an interesting price. I guess the seller found a GMT with fuchsia insert bringing big money so that makes her sample worth big bucks too - without even considering the poor case condition and missing bracelet. I would have taken the $15,000 so fast there wouldn't have been time for a second offer. I guess I need to break out some of the GMTs and head over to the sales section.

If you like it - buy it. I don't understand why everyone here lately needs the "group's approval" before making a purchase. There are plenty of comps out there for GMT 1675s.

Looks like you got your answer. I’d trust the pros here if I were you.

Looks like the hands were relumed. I have been offered also a 1675 with mk1 dial and fuchsia insert for $14.5 in much better condition. We made a deal already and expect to get it by next week.

As what my collector friend said, with the insane prices of the GMTs, the market will be flooded soon by owners who want to cash in on the high prices. After which the prices will go down to a more reasonable level.

Just goes to show you, buy it when you can! All the waiting and questions raised the price over 10K!

You would be much better searching the sales area on here and VRF than fork out your hard earned on this example

I'm going to be the dissenting opinion here and state I think it's a good deal. The insert alone would sell for $5k+. Look at what the inserts sell for over at VRF.

The unevenness of the lugs would irk me daily.
Then the bezel would kick in .... But if you like it that's all
that matters...
