2000 Gold Rolex Submariner ?'s

My father in law just gave me the watch above that he bought new in 2000. I am trying to get the bracelet squared away as it does not fit. He says there are no more links but I think it is missing some because I cannot get it to fit with everything on the widest settings. Does anyone know how many links the bracelet came with and what the little opening clasp is behind the big clasp. Is that to allow space for a wet suit. I currently have 5 links from th 12 hour side of the watch including 2 behind the clasp that are'nt useable. There are 5 on the 6 hour side thought the 5th is tiny. Is this the proper amount? Also any idea on valuing for insurance purposes?

Thanks

You're missing two links. The current MSRP is $25,250, although you can probably get a 30% discount in my area.

Insurance is going to require you to get a written quote for value.
Make sure you explain to the dealer who does this for you that you want it insured for current market cost of a new one.

You will have to buy a couple new links.
You will find a couple great guys in here who can help you get them, however many you have to buy is a VERY small cost to pay for that watch since it was given to you...

You know what... I have a DSSD which is a MUCH better diving watch (I wouldnt dive with an 18K watch...) Ill gladly swap ya if you want a true diver :)

Great gift, Incredible that it came from an in-law. Buy a few links and enjoy that watch!

Rolex

Yeah, my f-in-law has been generous. He has given me a SS GMT Master II, a 2 tone GMT Master II and just this Christmas this Gold. He loves Rolexes and regulary turns his over for newer ones and has given me the cast offs. This of course being the most generous donation to my collection. As I joked to him that's a few mortgage payments for me right there. I love the watch but all gold is a bit much for me as a daily wearer. My wife got me a new SS GMT Master II that I wear as my daily driver but I already went to the Rolex dealer yesterday and was eying the new Sub. Man I love that larger case and the lettering on the bezel.

Thoughts on where I can get the links? I found some on ebay but am not sure if they are what I need or if the price is right. Anywhere from $200 - $400 per link. I will get a pic up later - it's gorgeous with the blue face and bezel.

Thanks for everyones help. I love that there are forums for those with passions such as these. I probably spend most of my internet time when not working between watch, audio/visual and car forums!!!

Has it ever been serviced by Rolex? If not, it's due. May be the best way to get the links and everything restored to new condition. You'd be all set for another 5-7 years.

Am I off base in saying, "REALLY?" Father-In-Law just casts off $25,000 watches like that? REALLY?

Hooligan - yeah my f-inlaw has some resources backing him and to be fair is very generous with them towards us. He also loves to spend $ and we are the lucky benefactors of that.
