Changing Date etc

I was always under the impression that on a modern Rolex it didn’t matter what time you changed the date!

Having owned DD’s for over 12 years I never really bothered to check the manual.

I have owned a PT DD40 for a while now and when looking at the revised Rolex web site I see you can now access the user guide.

I notice this advice “Avoid changing the date or day after setting the time in a counterclockwise direction between 4 p.m. and 10.30 p.m.”

If I were to do what is suggested to avoided, will it damage the movement?

Any ideas?

Probably not. It is likely that it will affect the day/date change since you are setting "backwards" and re-cocking the mechanism.

I pretty much take whatever Tools says on the mechanics as scripture.

I've read/heard to never change the date unless the hours are in the bottom half of the dial (3-9). Not sure if any validity in that but I seem to follow the advice.

Interesting, just yesterday I had trouble setting the date on my 16600. 7 pm I set the time
backwards and some how got the date disk jammed when I tried to move it forward
on the quickset position. It felt like I could have broke something had I tried harder
move the crown. Through some trial and error I finally was able to solve the problem by
hacking the movement setting the watch ahead 12 hours then the quickest funtioned
normally.
