233 - 270
I think somebody told me the 233 wears a bit smaller than the 270 - Is that true? They are both 1950 case? Are they identical in size etc...?
Thanks,

I think you are right Jackson. Pretty much the same specs. I think the 270 is thicker due to the automatic movement, thus it wears bigger.

270 is a smidgeon higher on the wrist, i'm not a fan of it against the 233 as the sub dial looks a bit more cluttered. The 233 really is the watch to get.

Go for the 233...is less expensive and looks flat better on the wrist. If I was to get one I'll choose 233. Good luck...

Yes but no. It is slightly thicker but not detectable on the wrist. They wear the same.

I used to own the 233 and now a 270. I prefer the 270 as it is a bit thicker and like the dial beter. I notice the difference on the thickness between the two. Both are great pieces.

owned them both..love the dial on the 270, but 233 would be my choice. the 270 is very top heavy and thick...2mm in the case but with its weight, much more so.
270 is an awesome looking watch and way less made than 233's. |

I own them both and do not detect much difference when wearing. I would agree that the thickness difference is 1 to 2mm. I prefer the 233 due to simplicity, balance and larger numbers. To me the movement is a wash.

270 ~ "9",thicker,10 day auto
233 ~ Less expensive The final answer to the 233 vs 270 debate is ..... ......to buy a PAM 289 !! |

Agree 289 has become a favorite but 233 and 270 or 289 hummmmm I could not decide so chose all three and 270 sits in the box.

270 all the way! There is no other brand that I know of has a power reserve of 10 days with automatic movement! That alone speaks for itself!

Pehaps if its your only PAM its not needed, but if you wear more tha two watches during the week,I cant think of any auto watch more practical.I would have a use for it.

owned both.. 233 wins hands down.
233 - more balanced dial. wears very comfortably 270 - too thick for me, not quite comfortable on the wrist, small numbers on the dial

One might find that there are more scuffs or scratches on the bezel, where the crown guard is, on winding Panerai models be it 111 or 233. Cos when one when, usually the thumb will touch the bezel. Unless you are careful with it and wind it only with your index finger from the back. As for auto watches, you adjust the hands and give it a few shake and just slap it on and good to rumble! Again it depends on your lifestyle, if you are a fast paced worker like in NYC, perhaps you would prefer 270. But if you are a retiree or one who lives in a relaxed place and lifestyle, then you might prefer the 233 when you fiddle with it. JMHO. PS: Again, I would like to emphasize that there is no auto movts from other brands that is 10 days or more like the Panerai's 10 days PR. |

The problem with the 270 dial is the numbers are underneath the curve of the crystal. That coupled with their smaller size leads to distortion which drives me nuts. I could care less about the movement 8 day manual or 10 day auto a wash IMHO. I have posted several side by side pics in several threads in which the search function will show. I own 233,270 and 289 so my opinion is non biased but an opinion nonetheless. My 270 sits in the box and has only been worn twice.
