Explorer Ref 14270 "Swiss" vs last year of 114270

I'm trying to decide which would be the best purchase. I can get the 14270 "Swiss" for $4200 or the last year of the 114270 for $5500. Both are in excellent shape. The 14270 checks out and was produced in 1999 so the "Swiss" marking on the dial is period correct. It has the original box with limited papers and the 114270 has neither box or papers.
I'd greatly appreciate your thoughts!
Thanks!

5500 seems high for what you’re getting. I could be wrong of course. But I just snagged another 214270 from C&C with no papers, cards, box for 3000$. Just my opinion, but have you tried to negotiate the price at all or are you unable to?

Have tried to negotiate, wouldn't move. Would prefer the 114270, the last year of production if I go with that reference.

I would pick the swiss only dial if it's truly in excellent shape.

You bought a 214270 from c&c for $3000? That seems kind of incredible.

OP, I went with the 114270. Ithout box and papers, you could probably save a grand if your patient and look around. They pop up on the sales board here quite often.

The last of the 114270 with the Rolex Rehault and SEL is why I choose the "M"series. Heck for the same price I paid I could have gotten almost a newer model 2016 full lume numeral variant, but choose the classic proportioned one.

I have dealt with Tim from there with multiple watches. So when it showed up, without a bracelet I called and talked and made an offer which they accepted.

I think that's where my head is too. Thanks for sharing.
