Icon7 How to get the AD to think of your name

Hi All, just a question is buying stuff from an AD literally the best way to get an AD to think of you when you want to get on top of the list or are things like regular visits, giving the home cooked curry lol good ideas to. Is it just annoy them as much as possible so that they think about you?

there is a fine line between stalking and being a flaky customer... find that area

spending money helps too. If you name is Bob, tell them its something more unique as everyone is named bob, or scott, or dave.

It's a business, be courteous and buy lot's of stuff you don't need
Bringing all kind of stuff and consuming my time by coming every week would be very annoying to me.

Money talks, but so does attitude.

As much as we hear the VIP and VVIP tales, I dont spend anywhere near that perceived values at my AD, but we do make any jewellery purchases there, and occasionally pop in to browse for future purchases for my wife, daughter or myself, so we are recognised as paying customers when we walk in. In addition, I use the AD for service or repair/adjustments, insurance valuations etc as well, so we are regarded as repeat customers in addition to being regarded as credible with respect to me asking to be concidered for the BLNR I am currently waiting for (current status is .. next on the list). The watch lovers in the stores are always happy to talk watches during those visits as well, even when we are in store for something completely different, so light hearted chat is always appreciated.

As has been said, there is a fine line between stalking/being a nuisance, so it needs to be guaged with regard to the store and individual's you find yourself talking with when you do go in.

I've dealt with my AD in one form or another since the late 1980's, so its been a long term relationship and they know I would rather spend my money locally than online or elsewhere across the country, which also carries some weight with them.

I would not say I was pushy but I stopped in about twice a month. I usually had a reason, servicing a watch, Valentine’s Day, picking up services watch etc. I tried to be very polite and they got to know me and definitely took care of me when they could. I will say though they do have a customer for life now. They were always extremely nice and made the buying experience special. Many jewelers would not give me the time of day but they always were sincerely nice and never seemed troubled. I am thankful I was able to give them my business and future business. There were a few jewelers up in west Los Angeles whom I honestly do not know I would have wanted to buy from had the opportunity presented itself. Would have rather bought for a grey market dealer or on the forums.

Buy watches. If that doesn't work, buy jewelry.

Change your first name to "Rolex" and tell the AD that's what your mother and father named you.

Chocolates on the first visit, and a fine wine within 24 hours of the first visit.

Seriously though, if it's a super hot model like a Daytona you're after, you are not moving to the top of the list. End of story. Unless you spend a bunch of money.

If it's something like a Sub, GMT, BLNR or something like that, just stop in and chat and ask when you should follow up.

Chanel is not an uncommon name, esp round the estates, or for their Chihuahuas.

Don't think a one time and only purchase of a hot model will work at any AD regardless how many bottles of wine one gives
Logically the AD will always give preference to spending customers for the sought after models.

I can only speak for myself and I know I sound like a broken record ...

I drop by my AD to visit and chat, not just about watches, but about family, holidays, life’s ebbs and flows etc. Over the years, we’ve become friends. That’s how I think of them, and they think of me. It didn’t happen over night.

You’d be surprised what can happen when you let your guard down and just be yourself.

I’m by no means a big spender, in fact in that regard I’m probably like most here on this forum, and yet they always help me out with whatever reference I want. They also know I have a genuine interest in the Rolex brand and that I buy to wear and enjoy.

So my advice: be yourself, be nice, and forget the gimmicks.

Not really sure if this will still work in this day and age where the owners will give instructions to their sales folks to only sell to the top spenders or VIPs. Nothing wrong with trying and nothing wrong with the owner being choosy on which customers to give. Strictly business. Being an avid enthusiast may help though.

I take my AD coffee when I go in to see them. I do not ever bring up the watches I want I go in to see what they have. I do not want to pester they know what I want. I am on there list so I go in check out stock every few weeks and talk other things besides watches as well. So far I have received 5 watches from them. 3 stainless , 1 root beer and 1 two tone sub. Manager commented that maybe one of my ordered watches will be in soon. Keep my name fresh on there mind. I also go in when they open so it is slow

I agree with everything here. Money talks. First and foremost unfortunately. But the smaller guys still have a fighting chance with some relationship.

It absolutely does work. I got a Daytona-C the same day I called about one, and I am by no means a VIP/whale/or even remotely a big spender. I did have some purchase history with the store, but I feel like the tipping point was my relationship with the sales staff.

I would add though, that was a couple of years ago. These days I think even the best relationships are greatly assisted by actually buying something in the store.

And of course, some of it boils down to luck and then exactly what it is you're in the market for. I am really fortunate that I am one of the ten people left on the planet that doesn't want a BLNR or LV-C, so I'm easily satisfied.

Be a good customer - be polite, not demanding - buy things (watches and jewelry) loyally from them.
