Trade black 16613 towards blue 116613?
I got a black 1988 vintage 16613 when I turned 30 a little over 9 years ago. The blue was my first choice but the black came along for a good deal and I loved it so I got it. As I approach 40 in November, I am next on the list for a Seadweller 43 which should arrive before my birthday. I am also thinking about trading my watch towards a brand new blue 116613. The AD offered me the blue 116613 for $7500 plus my 16613, is that a decent trade? My watch needs a servicing and although it has a box I'm not sure it's the correct one and doesn't have the corresponding paperwork. Also the AD said that if I were to get this watch in addition to the Seadweller that I would be able to buy one of their ceramic 2 tone Daytonas next year. Should I do this deal, and is it a pretty decent deal? Thanks

Depending on the condition of your watch, it could be worth around $6.5-7k. The new one is around $13.4. Not a terrible deal plus you get to build a rapor with the AD. If you went private, you could probably find the 116613 around $10.5k but then you have the worries about buying from the grey market. I'd go for it. Good luck and happy hunting.

I'd go for it too. Buy smart and you can't lose if you later change your mind.

Well, monetarily it could be better. However, you get the watch you want and build a relationship which many of us can’t. If it does deliver a Daytona then it’s a stinking deal and you come out on the right side of it.

No..I'd look for a 116613LN to trade up to. I did blue for a couple years, it got old.. black never gets old.

I ended up not buying the 116613, in large part because the other local AD called me to tell me they got a stainless 116610 in and were willing to sell it to me. The blue didn't blow me away as much as I thought it would yesterday and I was really digging something stainless with brushed center links so that I wouldn't worry as much about the bracelet. So I ended up trading my 16613 in on a brand new 116610. I got $500 less for my watch than the other offer but I still felt it was worthwhile as I didn't lose any money on my 16613. This AD also will deliver me an SD43 in time for my birthday, and if I buy that will get me a Daytona by the end of 2020. I'm happy with that and I'm happy with my new sub. And I also now realize just how badly my sub needed servicing and how much of an improvement the new bracelet is. Thanks for the advice.

Congratulations! It is always good to try on the watch... and to listen to your heart! Well Done!

been a fantastic combo. A 6 digit date sub 116610 and the SD50 126600 seems a little redundant to me ... Maybe the ND Sub 114060 or a 5 digit SS 16610 or vintage sub might’ve paired a little better with the anniversary dweller. What do I know though , it’s your collection... |

Sounds like it all worked out well for you.
Like Mario, I'm a big bluesy fan, but hey, it's not for everybody. Congrats and hope all goes well with your SD43 and Daytona quest. |

I'm sure I will eventually add a bluesy, it just didn't feel like the right time this time. I also might consider a JC DSSD instead of the SD43 as the AD said they should be able to give me my choice for my birthday. Ultimately my long term collection desires at this point are both the JC DSSD and the SD43, a polar explorer 2, a Daytona and a bluesy. I'm thinking maybe something along the lines of a yellow gold PP Calatrava at some point as a PM piece too. I know there is a fair amount of redundancy there but I do really like diving watches, and watches that I don't feel bad wearing during all my daily activities as I am definitely not an office work kind of guy.
