My Explorer II 1655 Orange Hand

Here are some photos of my Rolex Explorer II 1655 Orange Hand. I bought this watch new in 1982.

]

I have the original box, original receipt (no serial number), warranty certificate (wrong serial number but my name/address, a recent thread), TWO "Rolex Explorer" booklets, a "Your Rolex Oyster" booklet, and a large "Oyster" booklet (all booklets 1982), as well as an extra band link. It has been serviced twice by Rolex, through AD's, but no paperwork.

Worn daily for ten years, has been sitting in the hall closet for the last 15 years.

For fun, go back and look at the dial. . . A couple of interesting things. The pointed Rolex crown. Better yet, look at the "Superlative Chronometer" and "Officially Certified". The "C's" line up vertically, making it a "Rail Dial" watch. Prof. Rolex's detailed post on Explorer II's in WatchTalkForums.com (another recent thread) indicates that this is a very rare thing in a 1655 Explorer II. A rare style of a rare watch, it seems. I just reviewed a couple of dozen photos of 1655 dials, and didn't see one like it (Prof. Rolex's aside).

Any ideas on value?

Wow!

Chris

No idea what it's worth Chris but it sure is neat. Congrats. Are you thinking of selling?

Rolex 1655

Beautiful piece. With today's poor economy in the US, the value is about $15K...... Crazy how a year ago, I saw them going for $18K-25K!. Enjoy it or sell it and have someone else enjoy it!.

Vintage classic. Is that crystal sapphire or acrylic?

Yes, I think that it's headed for a new owner. Considering that I have only worn it a couple of times in the last 15 years.

The crystal is acrylic. I know that I can polish it better with Poly Watch.
