Hulk vs Deepsea deep blue

Hi forum ! Would you trade a hulk for a james Cameron Deepsea ? Is this particular Deepsea model discontinued? And Which would be the best watch in the long run for desirability do you think ? Cheers

Best watch is the one you like wearing...
Example; I love the TT Blue Sub but it"s not for everyone but
I don't care cause I love wearing it...

It’s not discontinued it actually got updated in 2018

I’d go with that one if you are interested.

The bracelet is more balanced now, less tapering. Plus new movement.

It’s a massive chunk of a watch, if that’s your thing.

It’s certainly the most unique dial ever on a Rolex in Rolexes history so maybe that will count for something regarding future desirability. Having said that, I don’t recall green featuring much in the Rolex lineup throughout history despite it being the brands primary colour. The hulk is certainly very popular now... but nobody can predict future values. I would have to go for the JC in that respect for 30-50 years time. But thing is I’d never buy it as it isn’t my type of watch.

But don’t buy because of that. Buy/keep what you love

Ps the new JC has a crown at the 6 marker

Is your intention to get the JC because you think its discontinued?

And even if its discontinued what do you think you would make? LOL - imho stupid reason to consider a watch.

I wouldn't. IMO DSSD is too big. I don't know if thick 44mm watch would look good on me. If you can, good for you.

I would do it simply because I like the DSSD far better

I'd keep the Hulk. I thought I really wanted the JC deepsea and got one about 2 months ago; I've worn it about 3 times and decided it's just not for me. Trying to trade it now.

I have both. Love them equally, but Deep Sea isn't for everyone. I think u need a bigger wrist to make it work due to the size of watch it is. Not only is it big (44mm) but it's thick. So if u have a wrist larger than 7" it would probably be ok.

Deepsea is very big and very thick.
40mm is perfect I’d say.

Whatever you decide, you must try on the JC before you commit to the trade. In fact ideally you’d wear it around for a whole day, though I realise that’s unlikely to be feasible. It’s not so much the case diameter - though it’s obviously a big watch - rather the thickness, which is hockey-puck-esque. You are never going to not know you’re wearing it, I’d venture that it’s almost unwearable if you like to wear your watches loose and I think it’s therefore a watch that is very much love/hate as far as wearability goes.

Same here. I had both but traded them to help fund my 116618LN. The JC I wore about 3 times around the house, it was obviously wasn't for me. The Hulk I miss everyday. Hopefully I'll get it back one day.

I would go for the LV. The JC is not going to get discontinued any time soon as we have seen in 2018 with the model update. (Still prefer the black DS to the JC edition) My 2 cents.

I own them both.

I got transferred for work and felt I could only take 2 watches for the 6 months before I am married up back to all my watches. Of all my collection I decided to take the hulk and the deep blue so that should tell you what I think of them both.

They are very different to me and diverse hence taking them both. First time only having 2 watch rotation and I find I wear them equally. The hulk is a little more subtle only because of the size and a little more dressier again only because of the size.

Honestly if I was told to get rid of one I would probably honestly just flip a coin. I love them both and really if I was in the situation, I would wait and save to own them both rather than pick.

Go with your heart not your wallet.

Unless you have small wrists, my 2 cents, I think that the D/Blue Deep Sea is a better more complicated watch in every way.

If you have the wrist, go for the D-Blue. I've had both, and the LVc is amazing to live with but I love the unique features offered by the Deepsea.
Get both.

Both watches are great in my opinion. But very different in appearance and wear. I guess it would come down to what I wanted and if I had the wrist to comfortably wear the DSSD. I do believe the Hulk is a beautiful watch but over priced in the current market for both new and pre-owned. If you are into the Hulk for msrp or less, I would take my profits and get the DSSD JC.

To me, the D-Blue is the ultimate dive watch. If I could only own one Rolex it would likely be the one.
It is not discontinued. It was just revamped last year.

D-Blue

Best clasp
Best technical achievement from Rolex
Best domed Saphire for that vintage look
Best dial in the entire Rolex line-up

It is THE watch.

Best dial in the entire Rolex line-up - best, eh maybe but it is unique

It is THE watch.

Thanks for the feed back all ! In the end I just couldn’t let the hulk go, and to be honest I felt the size of the DS was just too big for my wrist so I had to pass this one up for now . I did however just pull the trigger on a 16710 Pepsi , picking it up Thursday , and I’m very excited about that watch ! Bound to post the obligatory wrist shot when it lands . Thanks again forum ...
