I concur. The interesting thing is some people would probably have no problem tipping the Starbucks baristas who do nothing but pouring a coffee for them yet find it somehow morally reprehensible to reward the Rolex sales person who might have gone to bat for them with their watch needs.

On this note I totally agree a $20 bill here and there, along with a sincere Thank You, works wonderfully as a token of my appreciation for someone who has gone above and beyond for me. Almost none of the people who got the 20 had expected it so the surprise and smile on their faces are heartwarming.

Purchasing their unsellable DJ's, Omegas or IWC's.

He gives me the watch, I give him my credit card, I say thank you, and then I'll write a great review if it was a good experience.

Good for you, gifted them a Bentley which is one of the world's most unreliable brand of cars and one of the most expensive to fix. Come to think of it, wow you must REALLY hate your AD for buying him a Bentley. The depreciation is soooo obscene, fortunately he doesn't take the massive hit in resale value since you gifted it to them. Good man.

I don’t think Starbucks baristas make commission on the coffee they sell... so there’s a difference. Also a $20 tip on a $8k+ watch just seems cheesy to me

"On this note I totally agree a $20 bill here and there" in reference to me tipping the guy who sold me the winning ticket...not a Rolex salesperson.

I don't even put my name down on the list. If they don't have something I want there and then, then it's onto the next shop. I'm sure as hell not going to be giving them a basket of muffins to call me in a years time.

I have bought most of my watches, including five Rolex, two Omega, a Grand Seiko, a Glasshutte Original and some jewelry, from the same dealer for the last 12 years and think that loyalty is a good bit of thanks, along with some very complimentary reviews on their website.

If you want to do something to further the relationship for future purchases I can see something like event tickets or something. I like them because it's always a mystery as to whether you paid for them or got them for nothing and couldn't use them. Takes the pressure off. But as a thanks for selling me something at full price..no.

Save your $20 for the guy who holds the door open for you or parks your car. That's not something to give a sales associate at a jewelry store.

Is spending $42k with them in last 30 days not enough?

Half-measures aren't going to cut it in this environment. Up your game.

Strangely yes, he says "you know.. I can move you up on the list for that ceramic Daytona you wanted" Ahem..and subtly places the white gloves on the table. We both know what that means.

And what about a Diet Coke?

Or is that when the convo goes another way and you need something to gargle with after?

Mine had a minor medical issue so I gave a couple of samples of an non Prescription cream, and it helped him very much. I would have done it for anyone in my day to day life.
