Sorry but I think it's wishful thinking to believe a random Ebay listing by a guy with 99% feedback and a storefront/website is your watch. He's got too much to lose to buy or sell goods with dubious ownership.
Secondly you've said all along you lost your watch, now you act as if it's been stolen for sure. Have you filed a police report, and on what basis? |

This reminds me about a thread that I read recently where the guy had his Rolex on at the gym and cops approached him bc someone reported a Rolex being stolen. He felt wrongfully accused and didn't feel like he had to prove anything.
If I was the ebay seller I'd feel like the same way. I'm sorry but the seller doesn't have to prove anything to you and you don't have any basis to report if your only suspicion is that they don't have the warranty card and books. So is every white ceramic Daytona without papers yours?

Thanks Art, of course I don't know, it just seems like the seller would then respond saying that the serial number doesn't match. If that was the case, fair enough and move on.

You can file a police report even if you think the watch has been lost, but not neccessarily stolen. Your insurance company will probably require one anyway.

Thank you sir, yes, that is why I filed a report. Just trying to locate the watch, not accusing anyone of anything.

Does your watch have a nick/scratch or any other such thing you can remember? If you can get a few pictures of that side of the watch from the seller and look for these marks you can confirm if it is/isn't your watch.
Have someone else or a TRF friend ask for the pictures. The seller is likely to ignore you given what you have said. I'm willing to do it if you like. Sent from my Redmi 4 using Tapatalk |

The watch on eBay still have the green sticker. Do you have that? Looking at the seller feedback and current listing, I doubt he would want to risk his image and business.
Good luck. |

OP - so sorry to hear this.
As an additional data point, I also contacted the seller for the ebay listing. I received a very quick response around midnight ET tonight. Asked about original owner, why no papers, and serial number. Was told the original owner misplaced the card and that the seller could not give me the serial number (no explanation). Random side question for others, as I have never been in the market for used watches before. What is so sensitive about sharing the serial number, at least upon request privately? Is there anything sensitive about that information...only thing I could think of is a counterfeiter using it so they could put a "real" serial number on a fake watch that is the same model. |

I think the best course of action is to go to the retailer personally and ask to see the watch with the intention of buying it. Then simply Look at the serial number.

I'm confused. Are you saying the cleaner had it? If so, why would you have taken a clean shirt on a hanger with a Daytona in the front pocket to the cleaner in the first place? And how would you not notice the weight in the pocket? Do you bundle up your own laundry or does someone do it for you?
Or are you saying someone broke into your residence and targeted your Rolex and nothing else, presumably wherever you left it, perhaps a shirt pocket in your closet. But you can't specifically remember taking it off? How long was it between when you remember you wore it until you noticed it missing? Overnight? A day? A week? I don't remember reading that you've said how long that time frame was. Before suggesting that sellers could be dealing in stolen goods merely because you're now viewing those who won't comply with your demands to verify SNs or have no papers as suspicious maybe you could answer some of those questions, or provide some info as to who lives with you, has had access to your residence, and where you went during and after the last time you remembered wearing or seeing it? For all we know you were shoveling snow, took it off your wrist, absentmindedly laid it on top of your garbage can lid where you told yourself at the time you'd surely remember it, and as we discuss this it's still out there. |

There is a very good reason that the seller doesn't want to give out the serial number. The same reason that postings for watches normally have the serial number blurred out either fully or partially. If they are a grey market seller they don't want Rolex tracking the watch. Or.. they don't want to expose the serial number for possible insurance fraud. If I were the OP I would have never posted the serial number in a public forum. Especially saying the watch has been stolen. It just invites someone to take out an insurance policy on the watch and quickly declare it stolen and take the payout. If the OP hasn't already contacted his insurance company I would do so right away.

Hope you find it! Here's my lost and found story:
Few years back, I rode my motorcycle to Alaska, during one leg of the trip when got tired after riding some 400 miles through a hot desert so I decided to take a rest at rest stop thousand mile away from home, but when I tried to continue on with trip I could not find my key anywhere. After an hour, gave up and used my spare key. When I got to the hotel, I called BMW and ordered another key and asked my lady to pick it up just incase I lose my current spare key...I finished the trip and few months later I found the lost key inside the sleeve of my motorcycle jacket. The BMW key with chip costs almost 200 bucks I think. |

I hate when people start a story and ask for help and then never follow up with the outcome.

Just read this thread and I'm confused about something or did I miss it. Stated his watch was a white dial Daytona but he thinks the e-bay watch with a black dial may be his. ????
Do hope he has found it. |

OP mentioned he took off watch and implied it was after a trip. I would recommend he checks his luggage thoroughly and any backpacks, fanny packs and anything with a zipper. He might have placed the watch in another pocket on a different shirt, pants, shorts, etc.
Luggage usually goes back to "storage" when not in use and it could be there and he would never know it until his next trip... If it was in his pocket on a dress shirt and he took the shirt with others to a cleaner, there is a good chance it fell out somewhere between his closet and the cleaners due to the weight. Only way it would stay in pocket was if the pocket was carried in an upright position the whole way. Wish him luck in finding his watch. My guess is that it is still in the house somewhere... |
