I fail to see how the suggestion to bundle is any slimier than customers who want a discount to buy readily available models from an AD, or who flat out refuse to shop in an AD because the grey dealer price is 30% less.

Only those who insist on paying full RRP on everything they buy and only buy from ADs can claim to be victims of the current situation. For everyone else you have to take the rough times with the smooth.

Would be a different story if we were talking about life essentials but these are just toys for people with a not insignificant disposable income when all is said and done.

*Warning* The following is lengthy.

You know guys and dolls, it's all well and good to advise or post recriminations, flipping the bird, legal action by Rolex, etc. when sitting comfortably behind the safety of a computer screen on a semi anonymous forum. (I've done it! Although regretted it soonafter.) Whether it's blowing off steam, ranting or genuine frustration, it's probably good to get it off your chests instead of letting it fester into true anger.

Many, or some anyway, side with the AD stating they're in a Capitalist society and cannot be blamed for trying to increase their bottom line. There's truth to this as well. Money can bring out the worst in *some* people.

I usually skip these threads as they do not affect me personally. I've always been a DJ man however I completely share the frustration members must feel when dealing with the current SS supply situation. My problem when I read about these situations is that while it's damn tempting to 'sic' Rolex on these, let's say: problematic AD's or wanting to give them the 'finger', or whatever rude gesture / words you wish to say, I'd lay the price of a Platona it happens as often as a lunar landing. Talking tough is easy and can be funny to read, but honestly: to act rude accomplishes nothing except to make oneself look like some uncouth jackass. (Probably why it doesn't happen too often if at all.)

Sure, most of us been treated at one time or another like less than desirable human garbage by smart-ass AD's and there's no worse feeling that being willing and able to buy a 10k+ watch and be spoken to like a bum. Especially by some punk who can barely spell Cosmograph and calls a watch crown a "winding thingy"!!. Yes, it happened to me. My take has always been to bite my tongue and *live and let live*. Easy to say, I know! It's my credo to avoid confrontations which are unwinnable. Cursing, threats of violence or whatever else folks do brings us down to their level. If this continues, people are never going to have patience or be polite which is a startling thought. And, I don't mean only in the luxury watch market.

As for AD's bundling: to me, it's almost extortion or blackmail. It's the gun to the head approach I loathe. Yes, make a living but their greed is abhorrent to me. Certainly, there are some (perhaps many) here on TRF than can eat tens of thousands of dollars to buy an "EXTRA" PM watch to qualify for their target piece, but I cannot. For many (most?) it's a challenge to accumulate the funds to buy one Rolex. The common response is "oh, just flip the one you don't want." Oh really? I'm sure the folks that have done this will be quick to educate anyone who, without a mess of contacts and no experience, how "easy" flipping a $40.000+ can be. If it were me, I'd take it to my AD and loose a ton of money simply because I do not know the ropes. Craig's list? Ebay? I don't have that kind of faith. Or temperament to send a HI-Val item to a stranger. Maybe others are more trusting in Couriers, Post, Ebay....what have you. Plus, the depreciation would bug me. Just something to think about if getting stuck with a watch you cannot keep. Moving on.....

The AD "gotta earn a living" nonsense doesn't work because morally, it's wrong to *insist* the customer spends more. Perhaps even beyond their means. It ABSOLUTELY violates the "spirit" of acceptable customer / seller agreement or unspoken contract. The transaction should result in both parties being satisfied. And on a personal level, both buyer and seller should end up HAPPY. As the saying goes.

I sincerely hope we can stay civilized and exercise some restraint regardless of who's right or wrong. Minor issues like buying luxo watches are so low down humanity's priority list in this day and age expending energy or getting angry on insignificant issues is a waste of time. I understand getting riled, pissed off or even angry but dealing with it is the challenge.
Only my opinion,
Mark

Thank you to everyone who has responded with words of advice, I think the above quote hits the nail on the head.
I always like to remain polite and act in a respectful manner, I thanked the AD (who told me he was a part owner if the store) for his time before I left, and shook his hand. I have no ill feelings. I can buy a new sub date for a 20% premium anyway, even less if I take one 3 or 4 or more years old.

I will name the AD, but once I've left the small island and resort where I'm staying. I did have an in depth conversation with this guy and he does know where my hotel is. I do not think he will launch a 'Rambi style' attack' but I am here with my child, so I'd rather not risk it! The internet is a powerful tool, when used without caution it can bite you! Who knows he may even be a member of this forum?

AD blackmailing exists because of ss sports models selling for 50-100% above MRSP in the market .Either the AD sells it directly to the grey dealer or he makes his money by blackmailing the client into "deals".Then you have the grey client buying at those prices from the grey .

The fun of buying a Rolex is disappearing in these circumstances.

Set the market right by increasing the MRSP on sports models Rolex !!

After five watches over five years a new member of staff at my AD said I could do with increasing my purchase history to help with potential BLRO purchase , I didn’t Finnish my coffee .

Them you probably will never see Scott.

But there it is.

We have new Rolex watches sold by greys whether marked up (wanted) or discounted (also rans) supplied to the greys by AD’s.
Are the AD’s taking a kick back from the greys from the greys mark up?

Any Rolex watches sourced by Greys from original buyers are second hand unworn or not and cards will/should bear the original buyers name.

You know the AD discount - do the math.

Do you want that another 3-4k piece of jewelry or watch? If you do, it's a no brainer. Otherwise don't waste your money buying something you don't want.

Is the supply to the grey market and bundling a problem? Absolutely. Should ADs face losing their status? Also yes.

My point is it is hypocritical to expect ADs to hold themselves to a higher level of integrity than we hold ourselves to. Short of SS professional models people do not expect or intend to pay RRP for anything in a watch store (which is just as against Rolex law as bundling and supplying to greys). And a significant proportion of hot models sold to customers end up flipped for profit. So why is it ok for rules to be broken when the customer benefits (which is 99% of the time given the small % SS professional models account for in a store) but the internet is up in arms when it’s the other way around. As I said, rough with the smooth.

There is nobody forcing people to shop in an AD or accept terms they don’t want to.

The first sentence should have read... While in Europe I visited (name of AD) in (city) and they wanted me to bundle..... Otherwise there have been hundreds of bundling posts.

it seems to me your options are to do the deal or walk away. Everyone will have a different opinion on what is right for them. If the deal being offered isn't to your liking then alter the terms. It's called a negotiation. In the end if you can't come up with a deal that satisfies both parties, then walk away. Don't take it personally. It's just business.

I am definitely not a player in the current games, but if I was willing to spend thousands on jewelry or less desired watches at a jeweler they had better show me a little more preference on hot models than someone who doesn't. An AD has only so many hot watches. Why should he sell them to any tourist who walks in off the street and have none for his loyal customers?

Ads in Thailand also practize like this, I am placing a complaint with the Consumer Protection Board, government agency which I hope they may help me negotiation and performing the transparency of registered intertest lists.

Yeah, just walk away. They seem to think the ball is always going to be in their court. They'll fight the feeling tooth and nail, but sooner or later, they are going to have to treat us like human beings again.
