Green Dial Daytona 116508

Had the chance to buy the green dial Daytona 116508 in January at a discounted price from my AD. She said it was the first one she's received since it's come out. I told her no because I was holding out for a Ceramic Daytona 116500 which came in a couple of months later but wanted to buy that model next. Now I am in the fortunate situation to purchase the Green Dial Daytona and would love to add it but AD said they probably won't get one for years and cannot be ordered.

Why is there such a demand for this model now? is this the theme with all precious metal Daytonas?

The watch has been quite hard to get and on back order for quite a while now. My AD’s have received wait lists and they aren’t sure if they will see more than 1 in the year. So simple supply and demand like so many hot ones. John Mayer on Hodinkee also didn’t help here recently!

Ah got it. Is it this particular green dial model is harder to get? or all PM daytonas?

The green dial is made from s special material like tourmaline and is only mined by the regurgitation of bats and found only in a small remote village of a foreign land...

So, that is the only reason for the wait.

Isn’t the demand increase due to John Mayer?

I just searched for and found the video and watched it. (slow day at work, for a change.)

With his knowledge of watches and enthusiasm, I am sure John Mayer is on TRF. Can't possibly not be part of this forum!

Agree on the John Mayer comments...it started a frenzy!! Also, for what it’s worth, Connor MacGregor is often rollin with one on his wrist. Reppin the

Maybe!

It would be cool for him to chime in every now and then

But I understand why he doesn’t also lol

Then everyone would message him about which watch is the best investment

Demand for this one was always pretty high relative to supply even before John Mayer's segment. Mayer's segment just further multiplied demand. They were pretty rare to begin with - I spotted one at a local AD in November 2017, tried it on, and then it sold 5 minutes later to another person who walked in and spotted it.

My AD has told me they've only seen one so far, last one being in August 2018, and that they have no visibility into when they will receive another one. They get calls for it every day now. I have no reason to disbelieve them them one bit as they were very candid with me on their BLRO supply and delivered me one with less than a 2 month wait.

My AD was able to order me one and told me his rep said there are NONE in the US. They are waiting for the allocation and it should be "soon". He quoted a month or a couple..... The ad took a 50% deposit and said he will call me when it shows up. He sounds very promising. I sold my 116508 black dial to fund the green dial. I had a chance to get green easily a few months ago but passed. Now I regretted it so hence why I ordered green.

I have heard AD's aren't able to special order these so that's why I was surprised when my AD told me he could.. so I'm interested to see the outcome!

I wonder if you can buy the factory green dial and do a swap by a Rsc. I can’t handle selling my Daytona at a loss just to by the 116508 green at a premium

It was already a hard piece to get from an AD before John Mayer's Talking Watches. Sure, it may be harder now, but it wasn't easy before either. Fact.
