In fact I went out today and looked at PAM watches and Rolexes too. The money in that place last night, kinda like Vegas, you can drop $20k and not know it -- until the next day.
I was wondering where you got all those gems of knowledge. I thought you had the most knowledgeable AD in America on Rolexes, but coming straight from the Rolex Rep, truley amazing!!!

Well there were other results that just came out this evening.

I went to another mall in Brandon and went to Mayor's. They knew I was at the VIP night and asked if I had bought anything. I said no, sadly they did not have the watch I wanted with was a dark dark blue sub with haute engraving. They had brought in six watches for me and none met my wants, and they even offered me 10% off, but I passed.

Mind you now, this particular store DID have the watch that I wanted, but they renegged on their discount for want of a few bucks. I refused the purchase based on principle.

The salesman told me that they still had the watch. In fact they had sold 3 or 4 Bluesies since I was last there but the one I wanted had sat, ignored. I gave him both barrels and firmly stated: "Well had you honored your written price I would have bought it."

Long story short: My price for the watch, out the door: $7440.

Pics soon. But now I have a bluesy with a purplish dial.

Agreed, Chris

Robert, well done putting a very interesting report together, with info gathered from the inner circle of those 'in the know'.

Excellent and what a great event it was

I felt like a reporter. But I know Chuck the Rolex Rep appreciated intelligent questions.

hi there congrats on those nice info.personally im pretty glad that rolex intend to keep that daytona look as it is, even no date.the point that daytona must have that usual distinct look from a far i think is really a good point for rolex.and i think putting a date would ruin that concept of what daytona chrongraph really is all about.it is a SUCCESS! i just love those 3 circles inside my daytona.that has been the look ever since so why change it?its meant to be an ICON as we are all saying here.so im with it that that daytona look and feel must stay.its good for rolex to do that and its even better for us daytona owners to have it that way as it is, coz we will always have that daytona look in our wrist- meaning always a classic thing! well talking about upgrades, a daytona owner can always consider the white gold and yellow or rose gold makes.personally though the SS DAYTONA black or white is more value for money.yet that daytona feeling and look is clear and established.

Here's a novel idea...what about offering the current Daytona AND a Daytona Date? Oh gasp...the horror! For all those 'purists' that think it's such a crazy idea...I say look to the Sub for inspiration. If memory serves, I'm pretty sure that started out as simply a Sub sans date prior to the Sub Date addition. Somehow I don't think too many people would say that little idea didn't work out for all involved. Cheers.

hi dude yup i got your point.however the sub is not a chronograph.and it both worked out for the sub no date and sub with date. personally i think it will be too tight to put a date section in the daytona.it will be a wrong move for rolex.the 3 little circles did it already.it was accepted by all.its a success already thanks to the (PAUL NEWMAN daytona)why rock the boat?yup i know there are other chrono watches with dates but they started it that way to begin with and i find them tight in my eyes. rolex did it right as it is..look where daytona is right now.

Understood...I'm just of the mindset that changes/upgrades aren't necessarily bad things (especially if they still offer an "Original Daytona"). What can that hurt? Variety and choice are good in my eyes and I think Rolex could capture even more market share if they offered more options such as this. I know numerous people that are watch lovers that have passed on the Daytona because of the lack of a date (myself included).

While some like you believe it's fine and prefer it w/o, there is obviously a market of buyers that refuse to buy a watch without a date. Offer both models and let the consumer choose IMO! A variation on a classic does not render the original any less classic in my eyes...if anything, it makes it more classic and sets it apart as the ultimate icon. Cheers.

yup i understand your sentiment now after i read you previous post and what you stated now that you will only buy a daytona if theres a date section.unfortunately for you though it wont be like that the way its going.rolex daytona seemed built that way and many including me accepted that DAYTONA ART the way it is.no regrets for me.the fulfilment i got when i bought it is different from other watches i got. An icon in itself.i encourage you still to buy the daytona as it is, besides im sure you have other rolex with dates on it(LIKE ME).the decision is yours though.thank you for the nice discussion and this is what TRF really is all about.enjoy you rolex!
