Exp II price increase?

Tried selling my polar 216570 last year for 6+k with no luck, I see some listed now for 7+k and near new for over 8k? What gives? Btw thanks Rolex marketing department. Hats off to you lot!

It’s a great reference and it’s popularity is on the rise. Looking forward to see what Rolex does to commemorate the 50th of the Exp II in 2021.

It's an under-appreciated reference.

It's probably looking a lot better to a lot of people who can't get their hands on the hotter references.

Being an ExpII 216570 owner I have also noticed a slight increase in price. Used to see them regularly in the AD windows everywhere and now something SS and Sports is like gold dust (We all know that).

I have also noticed that the Polar 16570 getting a lot more daylight and 'hype' by a number of social media bloggers/collectors/reviewers in the last 6 months. Prices are slowly creeping up for this reference also.

Self prediction; The overlooked and underrated Polar 16570 will be a 'must have' in a SS sports collection in the near future due to it being so diverse.

In the UK it seems quite an achievable watch from many AD.
Then sells for less than retail for New in Box here.
I suspect it is one that is sold for discount to greys/resellers for flipping onto market, as I have seen many for sale.
A local AD had one for me to try on, it is the first time the "it did not sing to me" thing felt true - but really I did not want to waste my watch fund on the watch I only half wanted, and would rather wait for other one....(long wait it seems!!!)

If that is the case then I'm very surprised that Watchfinder and Iconic are asking above retail for preowned!

To be fair, that doesn't mean that it's looking better, just available.

A 5 doesn't look better than an 8 at 3am in a bar, but an available 5 is better than nothing.

My AD told me just a few weeks ago that the movement is currently being updated in the Exp ii models. I'm skeptical, but we shall see.

Demand for 5 digit Explorer II's is increasing - certain variations of these are undervalued in my option. This may well be contributing to the increase you're seeing here (along with the general SS demand trend)

Sorry, did not mean to hit a nerve.
I had been actively looking for one and following the UK market for a few months. (back around year 2000 I had the older polar)

Initially saw lots of black dials, and convinced myself I wanted white. Saw the white in the AD and tried it on, but still not sure - would like to try the black - like the idea of the floating hands, the matte dial etc., but again would need to see it IRL. However what struck me the most was how small the winding crown was (I am used to SUB size) weird I know.

Watchfinder etc., are premium sites where people ask MORE for watches.
I was talking about actual sold and real life stuff like I had been seeing and talking to sellers on ebay etc. Sweetspot is from £4900 to £5500 for new, unworn.
I was offered this one for the lower price, eBay item number: 323752092776
Would like to hold my small amount of funds for the Hulk or GMT ideally. From talking to resellers etc., it seems EXPII can be purchased by many under MSRP (for our overseas friends UK now is £6250 YMMV

No nerve hit just expressing a differing pov.

That ebay number is not recognised but if you know of any new ExpII for £4900 post a link as it may help someone out.

To be fair I am sure they are all doing the same searches.
This advert was on for several weeks BTW)
I missed a black one for same money - an then watched as it was ironically re-sold by another ebay flipper for £5500 (so flippers are everywhere!!)

I've been on the hunt for a Polar 216570 for a short while now. For me, it's not just because it's obtainable. I have a white faced Thunderbird, a 16610 Sub, and an Omega Moonwatch. For me, the 216570 is desirable because it's different. I love the larger size and legibility. Plus, you get a striking white face and orange hand GMT function. I basically like all the things that make people hate it.

I have noticed the same thing. Prices seem to be creeping up but I don't see all of them selling. I feel like flippers are trying to ride the wave of all the models going up. I see used ones going up not that much far below new ones. I could buy a used on for a decent discount but I'm testing the ADs to see how obtainable this watch is. I had a really nice interaction with my AD this past weekend so I'm hopefully that he will give me a call when one comes in. That could mark the start of a good relationship. If not, I'll just patiently shop the used market and pull the trigger when I find the right one for me. When did watch shopping start to feel like dating?
