Pick your poison... What would you do in this market?
So I have a milestone in life coming up that I would like to memorialize for myself. We all know the current market is a unique animal which leaves two different paths for me to pursue for my next purchase. Would you rather...
1. Continue to develop my relationship with my AD and purchase a YG champagne stick dial DD either as a new but, discontinued 118238 or a new 128238. Hopefully I can get a 10-15% discount on this watch and use it to get on the list for a 116519LN to purchase next year (hopefully at a slight discount). To be clear, I’m not using the DD to get the Daytona, I like both watches and would want the DD as they”milestone” watch this year and then get the Daytona when available at a decent price. 2. Purchase a BNIB A. Lange Söhne Lange 1 Moon Phase in either platinum or WG from a grey dealer at the typical grey market discount. I would only be able to buy this watch and not the Rolex watches as all 3 together would be too spendy. The Lange 1 Moon Phase is definitely a grail watch for me but maybe less versatile then the 2 Rolexes but maybe the better “value” in this crazy Rolex market as I could probably get a better discount. Either option would be a meaningful chunk of change and I would be pretty much “done” with my collection after choosing one of these paths for the foreseeable future (besides adding a 16710 lug hole Pepsi w/ jubilee and a 2-liner 14060M). What direction would you go? Thanks!

If the 116519LN is what you want, don’t settle. You probably just need to find it outside of NYC. I’ve seen it randomly before in smaller markets in the case.

Lange. Hands down if it were me. That is a milestone reference.

Only on TRF would the eventual purchase of two vintage Rolexes be a parenthetical footnote.
I don’t think you “need” to buy a new DD to get a WG OF Daytona.

I’d buy the watch I really want. And change ADs. PM Rolexes (even Daytonas) shouldn’t require that much work.

With the DD / Daytona combo I have an okay relationship with my AD that is out of state of NYC so not dealing with the goal NYC metro area insanity on demand and pricing. Really the question to me is do I go with more Rolex watches or get a “grail” ALS. Thanks!

To be clear I’m not settling on the DD as it’s a watch I really want. More it is just a decision that I can get 2 PM Rolex watches over the next 12-18 months (with the DD as the “milestone” watch) or I can buy one super expensive ALS. Thanks!
