Check and see if you like the Tudor divers you would be getting a watch that’s just as good maybe better for less.

same boat. multiple purchases over several ADs and can't get on the list for anything really interesting.

Maybe time to PM takuya and have your watch the next day

No AD in the tri state will let me get on the list for 114060

After 20 years of my business and plenty of purchases (and an excellent relationship) my AD has become less than accommodating. They no longer send me invites to events, have been unable or unwilling to get me any of the models I’m after, and have taken a rather condescending tone. Needless to say, when this hot market cools off and they have inventory sitting, I won’t be a buyer.

It’s really a shame, the lack of inventory and grey market gouging are together killing my desire for another Rolex. I think I’m not alone in this feeling.

Not sure why people fall for salesmanship. It is a game. Yes I said it. There are exceptions but some ADs are selling long standing relationships down the river quickly.

Why do you think they would do that? just to sell them to a new buyer without a long standing relationship?

Aside from the disappointment of pre-paying for a watch you’d never see for 3-4 years (my SWAG based on my position on the nearby AD’s list) - what’s the issue?

A pre-paid spot on some waiting list is only a psychological placebo replacing desire with secondary self-gratification. Ummm, yeah like the metaphor you’re painting in your mind.

As suggested, why not look at some other models from Tudor or Omega. I own a couple of Tudor Pelagos watches and they are amazing in titanium. The Black Bay, in any of the colors, on a bracelet can be had pre-owned for about $2500. I like the new Omega 300 and the last generation of Omega divers can be had for a song. Plenty of options for great watches. I really like the Submariner but I am through with the hype and hustle of the SS market and will wait till the bubble burst. And it will, just like the stock market or housing market. Ups and downs. Go get yourself a cool watch and wait. In the long run you may end up liking it better than the Rolex. On a lot of levels, I do.

Plenty of options other than buying from an AD; as suggested, take your business elsewhere.

To reserve them for people who are jewelry purchasers not just watch purchasers.

Please forgive my ignorance, this is only my second post and I’ve just discovered this site.

I had no idea that there would be any difficulty in buying a new Rolex Submariner, aside from putting together the funds.

Am I to understand one can’t walk into an authorized dealership and buy a new Rolex? I assumed they might not have one on hand, but figured it might be a relatively short wait between the order and receipt.

It’s possible this might be a lengthy explanation, so I don’t expect anyone to have to go to all that trouble. Perhaps there’s another thread I could be directed to that would explain the current buying process?

Thank you in advance,

Michael

There are endless threads on the topic but the general summary is that many of the popular Stainless Steel sport models are in high demand globally and there isn't a sufficient supply to accommodate everyone.

You can sometimes walk into an AD and buy one if you are very lucky, but it's not as easy as it used to be and preference seems to be given to big spenders over first-time buyers.

Datejusts, Two-tone models, and precious medal models are easier to come by.

Grey market sellers are an option for some in demand models but they are charging a large premium over MSRP.

You can walk in and easily buy a Rolex. Just not particular steel sports models.
If you want these particular models, you pretty much have to pay the “market” price from a grey dealer, or spend with your AD to build relationship. Either way money is the answer

Bernie Robbins, Sydney Thomas and AR Morris. All duds
Is that really what they're going for? My god, I think I paid something around MSRP with tax 3 years ago.

How to know the people when they don't sell

It appears that people do not want an honest answer when requesting to be placed on a list. They (the ADs) are telling you either there is no list, or the list is so long you will never get the watch you want. So would you rather them tell you the truth or place you on a list that you will never be called.
Customers know if they will be receiving the hard to get watches for many reasons. If you are not one of these customers your chances are slim to none.
This is the current environment, all the complaining we see from all these type threads are not going to change anything soon.

There is no true list, anywhere.

I am a small fish compared to many customers of my AD, so I’ve been waiting for a white dial daytona for about 2 years (I didn’t decide I wanted it until I was able to try it on).

But, I decided I wanted to add a no-date earlier this year, and emailed my guy. He said the next one coming would be mine and estimated a month and even gave me a date of which shipment in would be in. He offered me a sub-date right away (i reminded him i bought one from him before the madness).

The delivery date came and past, so I called him a week later. “It didn’t come...” But we all know it did. It just went to someone else who had an even bigger purchase history and decided they also wanted it.

3 weeks later I received the text announcing its arrival. Called, gave him my visa and he set it in the safe for me to pick up whenever I’m able. I’m not local, but I’m the same state as the dealer.

This all went down in just the last few months.

Point being... the list is more of a collection of names. Your order on it depends on the size of your relationship.

There isn’t a shortage as much as there has been a massive increase in demand. More people have money, the people with money have even more money than they had before, and there’s more interest in rolex sports models than just about anything else in the watch market.

And it’s sales 101 that you take care of your best customers first. Everyone who is in any sort of sales position understand that; the best customers are the ones that provide most of your guaranteed income stream. If you lose a good customer to a competitor because you weren’t available to service them (or in this case provide them with what they wanted in a reasonable time)... you might lose even more residual business from them.

Losing a random one-off sale is much less important than losing a continued relationship.

You can’t blame the dealers... this is simple economics and business. Blame guys like me who are buying more than we really need. (But really blame the guys who are worse than me, because I’m not like the worst or anything. I don’t kick puppies and hate rainbows or something)
