Officer down, Colorado State Patrol

Trooper William Moden was struck and killed yesterday by a vehicle while assisting at the scene of an earlier crash on I-70 near mile marker 324 in Deer Trail, Colorado.

He was checking on the occupants of one of the involved vehicles when another car struck him at approximately 9:40 pm. Another trooper on the scene immediately began providing medical care. Trooper Moden was flown to the University of Colorado Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries early the following morning.

Trooper Moden had served with the Colorado State Patrol for 12 years.

Godspeed Trooper Moden, may your friends and family both blood and blue find peace and solace. We’ll see you on the other side brother.

Prayers for his family and coworkers. It’s so sad when this happens. We have a law in MD called Move Over just so this doesn’t happen. There are still many people that fail to abide by it, but it is getting better.

We’ve had the move over law in Pa for years but even so I had many, many close calls on the highway. I finally started approaching vehicles that I stopped on the passenger side. In this instance though at an accident scene he probably didn’t have that choice.

At first I thought the idea of everyone moving over would cause more issues, but as people adjust to it, it has goiter better. So sad though. Obviously you and other officers put their lives on the line for us every day and for someone to carelessly plow in to an accident scene is just sad.

Rest In Peace Ofc. Moden. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, your family, and the Department.

We have the law here in Delaware too. I think it’s pretty much common sense. It should be made the law of the land.

We have the same law here in CO and for the most part people follow it. This tragedy will follow that driver for life.

RIP Officer Moden and God bless your family.
