New GMT Today

Put my name on the wait list about 3 weeks ago for the GMT II Rootbeer with my local AD, thinking it would take several months at least. Well, this week they called me and said they had one and it was mine if I wanted it. Had to scramble for the funds but I could not let it go. It's a beauty! And they threw in a sleeve of Rolex logo Titleist Pro V1.

I am still intrigued by the fact that the gray market is selling these for more than dealers are. I know Rolex is missing an opportunity here, as are the AD's, but what do you think this means for the long term value of of these watches?

Had to share it with the forum, as outside of the Store Manager, nobody in my household gets all that excited about it!

Beutiful watch Well done on your purchase as for buying for investment.......
No you buy a watch especially a CHNR
Because you love it
It's a work of art and I won't lower the quality of the watch by discussing value

First off congrats! That's an amazing watch.

Best not to talk about long term value around here as everyone seems to get their panties in a bunch lol. IMO the CHNR will level out around retail or just under, unless of course they do something crazy like discontinue it next year (which i seriously doubt would happen).

What opportunity do you think Rolex is missing out on? Charging more? If they charged more, there would be less demand for the watch.

Great watch, I also had a chance to buy one but reluctantly passed. I bought a 1675 instead. Congratulations and enjoy.

Thanks guys! Couldn't be happier with the purchase! Looking at my photo it looks like it may be a bit big for my wrist.

These are not investment, vintage watches are. It you want to invest then look elsewhere. Wear it and enjoy it.

Looks beautiful on you. Don't focus on a close up shot of watch on your wrist. Look at yourself in a full length mirror from a few feet away, then you can determine if a watch looks big on you or not.

Not much. As you note, folks can get this watch in three weeks. In the end, the higher prices at grey dealers are for buyers who want the watch right now this minute. Those prices are for speed and convenience. While I don't have a problem with that, it's not what long-term value retention is built on.

It's different for pieces that are essentially unattainable at retail. For those, the value is inflated by more than just convenience, and only a significant change in availability will devalue them. But the CHNR isn't in nearly the same league of unavailability.
