Huge gouge in new Rolex, what should I do?
Skipping the back story, I got a new Rolex Milgauss and after just 2 weeks of being careful with it and no fault of my own, there is now a gouge in the top left side of the case where it is very noticeable and annoying. It seems everyone is against polishing and I don’t know how deep the polish would have to go to fix this. What is the best course of action? Case replacement? Polish? Just living with it? How much do you think this takes off of the value of the watch? I wanted to post a link to the photo but am unable to because I haven’t made 10 posts.

If it is a gouge / hole...Laser welding could fill the hole.
Polishing will bring the surrounding area down to the level of the hole. If it bothers you, get it fixed. |

ibb .co/rZQ62XY As I cannot post links this is the best I can do. If you want to see the damage then combine the first two half’s of a link

Forget case replacement lol. You will get more scratches and dings.
Live with it until service time |

It’s a Milgaus. Just wear it normally. Get some more scratches

ibb.c o/rZQ62XY This is the damage, you have to combine the two half links as I cannot yet post links. How much would laser welding cost and do I get it done at an AD?

In a new reply, click the paper clip and upload it from there. Don’t need 10 posts.

Yikes. You cannot polish that out as it's too deep. You will lose too much material doing so.
I would recommend sending it off to one of the reputable independent service centers mentioned on here (Rolliworks, etc) for laser welding. |

Is tourneau reputable for laser welding? Are there any reputable companies in nyc?

Send it to Rolliworks in San Francisco for some laser welding, they will have it back to you in about 2 weeks and it will look good as new.

Tourneau is not a place I would choose for any Rolex work.

How did you pay for it? Higher end cards like Amex will cover accidents, loss and damage for 90-120 days. Have used them numerous times.

Laser weld
That's a deep dent. If you did polishing your wouldn't have lugs left I wouldn't go to Tourneau for anything. They can't be trusted to buy and certainly not for repair. In my experience the people I have dealt with are not professional or knowlegeable. Go at your own risk PS I see u still have stickers on. Why? That's just a dead cell magnet!! I guess the stickers didn't help prevent that dent Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

There are plenty of places on 47 street that would laser fill the gauge for you. I would however suggest looking for a polisher instead of a welder - they would handle the whole operation including disassembling the watch, getting the gauge filled, polishing, cleaning and re-assembly. For SS watch this should cost between $75 to $150. |

Dropped mine while passing it to a relative to look at after a similar amount of ownership time back in March. It can wait until first service and get sorted with any pals it accrues between now and then. Have a few major scars on 20 month old BLNR too.

Mid case replacement will cost you thousands, I’d have it laser welded by LAWW and be done with it. They post Instagram pics often of their work and it’s nothing short of amazing.

How is it running? That kind of damage raises questions about shock to the movement.

Let this thread and photo be a lesson to those “plastics” fanatics.
Didn’t do squat to stop this.

I understand it hurts when it’s a brand new watch and all (trust me, been there) but to me it really doesn’t look that bad. I would make sure the movement hasn’t been affected/damaged but otherwise leave it as is.
There will be more dents and scratches - it’s unavoidable if you plan on wearing your watch ;) Good luck |
