"New" daytona

I actually only learned about the new clasp on this forum. I joined a day after my purchase.

But with the special status given by rolex to an authorized dealer, you'd only hope to be given what you pay for; so if I was looking for the newest that Rolex has to offer, its upsetting to be given something else under the title "new".

I love the simplicity of it's design and the "ring" lock mechanism is also a class of it's own

My new V serial SS Daytona also came w/ the old clasp. I asked Rolex HK and they say the ADs can't control what Switzerland sends them and don't know when they will only start receiving Daytonas w/ the new clasp. Don't feel ripped off.... the old clasp is supposed to be better anyway.

the older clasp will be more collectible in the future.thats the only rolex clasp with that design! my daytona has the same older clasp and i dont have any problem with it.you got the best so why feel bad at all!

I sort of know how you feel. I bought a Sub LV from my AD last August but on the same day discovered that it was the older series without the inscription on the inner dial. Some people might have just left it - after all, it's the same watch and no one can see the "ROLEXROLEXROLEX'' inscription but I still insisted on having it changed because I wanted the latest version. So if not having the latest clasp REALLY bothers you, then I'd say you should have it changed. Good luck!

(My AD swapped it for me within 24 hours despite the fact that my name had already been written on the warranty certificate, which incidentally is why I always deal with an AD).

It's not worth the extra $725 for the new clasp in my opinion.

Max did you ever check the watch before you bought it?? i understand how you feel buddy..its not a cheap watch...and to splurdge with that kind of money you should get what you want...a lot of people here might not mind the clasp..but hey at the end of the day if it doesnt make you happy then you should return it if you can...its not them thats wearing the watch its you..and only you will appreciate it...all of us might say old clasp looks better..(i love the old clasp too) but if it doesnt make you happy even if we love the old clasp then at the end of the day the watch will not smile back on you....

Not harsh. When you are spending nearly 10K, you should do your research. If you walk into AD and they dont have exactly what you want, vote with your wallet and purchase exactly what you want elsewhere. Nobody but you can determine how you spend your money.

I walked into my AD to buy my watch. All they had was floor model from the case. I wanted BNIB so I had them order it and waited 2.5 weeks. I didnt buy something I wasnt 100% happy with.

I agree with your sentiments, regarding BNIB.
I have changed my philosophy, when it comes to buying expensive timepiece's.
Instead of buying one that is in stock. I'm now prepared to wait, for it to come direct from the company.
I know that at the end of the day, a watch is just a material item and once you have it on your wrist that's it.
But for those few special seconds, when you remove all the protective wrapping, knowing that nobody has touched or played with the watch since it left the Watch House, is something worth waiting for.

I would not worry about it personally. they can be sourced and probably will be available into the future. When this clasp wears down from life's experiences. Pick up the new and then you will have both! With Rolex it seems that Old is often the New... Look at anything with some years on it - premiums are almost always required.

I have not read through this entire thread so I am not sure what you paid, but my opinion is that you got a better deal scoring the old clasp versus the new clasp as long as you paid the correct price for the old clasp version. It is a $725 difference between the old and new clasp in the US and quite frankly I do not think it is worth the added $725. $9200 is the MSRP for the old clasp in the US and that is steep for this watch. Just my opinion though... There are many on this forum who would gladly pay MSRP for a BNIB SS Daytona from their AD.

If you did not get the old price, call your AD and request a refund for the difference in price.
