Two times a month. Every 1st and 15th it gets a cleaning with water, wristclean and a soft brush. That's also when I check the time and set it if needed.
When needed, usualy on holiday, it gets cleaned everyday because I wear it while at the beach and it gets a lot more dirty because of sand and sunprotector.

Whatever product you use to wash/scrub a bracelet, and even if you also use an ultrasonic cleaner, unless you pressure steam it you will have some residue betwixt the links, clasp and SEL’s.

Despite your best brushing...




And even long ultrasonic bathing...



There is always something lurking in the crevices...


I’ve done this many times (particularly on an incoming preowned watch) and even after brushing, ultrasonic and rinsing, it’s always a surprise what is left on the clean towel beneath the bracelet after steaming.

I’m not suggesting an expensive device or daily steaming. But if you’re in the habit of using an ultrasonic cleaner, it’s a natural step to take. Whatever technique you use, if you are removing the bracelet, steaming is a good idea.

And if you choose to steam, you can skip some of the expensive cleaning products and lengthy work. Steam is a natural sanitizer that leaves no pesky residue.

I have an inexpensive Steam Bullet that has attachments for typical home use. I’m sure there are more expensive tools but the pressure it exerts will serve you well. There are uni-taskers built just for jewelry but I like the versatility of the steam bullet when you also want to sanitize sinks and other home surfaces.

For those who have an espresso machine, the steam wand is also an option (just use caution and some bamboo or non-metallic tongs).



But it’s fiddly and hard maneuvering the bracelet safely around the fixture.

Your jeweler uses a fixed steam wand but s/he has the tools to do it safely. Even after ultrasonic cleaning, a good jeweler will steam clean your bracelet.

I shower every day so give it a soaping and rinse off and every week or so I take a fine toothed toothbrush to it to clear out all the little nooks and crannys.

Job done.

I figure that the more regularly you wash it, the less build up you'll get in all the hard to reach places, so intensive cleaning is often not really required.

As a rule, id say that if you look at you watch in normal wear/activity and think it needs a wash, you're not cleaning it regularly enough.

Mine gets washed and a good soak when I shower - so once (or more) per day depending on activities.

I typically rotate weeks at a time so in the summer I may end up washing my watch a couple times a week or as needed. Winter maybe once a week or every ten days.

I posted these pics in a similar thread last week so apologies to those who have seen it but here we go....

My ex-boss, now a good friend and I were in Hong Kong on business in 1994.
We walked into an AD and he walked out with a Rootbeer 16713.

From that day onwards, he wears it every day 12-15 hrs a day. He gardens in it, and pretty much EVERYTHING is done wearing the watch.
He has given me the watch every 6-8 years to give to my watchmaker for a service. Back in 2015, he did the same and this is how I got the watch.....
I just couldn't give it to my watchmaker in this condition so spent 30 minutes giving it a good once over.
My watchmaker sourced a new insert and the watch came back absolutely mint.
This watch has copped an absolute hiding over the last 25 years and is a real testament to the quality of the brand!
