Laser etching question
Can anyone confirm when laser etching of the crown began? I’ve heard 2001 but not sure. I recently acquired a U serial 16710 and do not see it on mine, but it is clearly visible in the photo below on the linked watch from Bob’s. Also my dial is Tritium while this just says “Swiss”. Kind of nervous - curious which one is correct?

I heard it started having the LEC on year 2000 releases but of course there will be older watches bought recently (NOS) which doesn’t have it.
An office colleague bought a circa 1995 DJ but paid for last 2006. So no LEC even though if was technically new in 2006. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

So if both are U serials (‘97-98 vintage), does that mean the one listed is a replacement dial and crystal and mine is correct?

Yes, if you have a tritium dial and with the laser etching on the crown the crystal has been replaced (which is not a big deal at all). So U serial with T<25 and no laser etching is correct.
