Safest way to buy from forum members....

[B]To those who have bought from forum members...what did the transaction entails when both parties cannot meet up....what is the safest way to transfer money and how can buyers be protected....do we pay first and hope that package arrives or can we pay cod....is it true that with paypal or credit card you are at least a little protected....i know it's a sensitive trust issue but we are dealing with a large sum for any rolex...thanks

I agree with chenx. I purchased a watch from a forum member and there was a great deal of mutual trust involved, but after talking to him I knew it was all good

Peter always ask people who has been here for a long time..ask for reference...talk to the phone and change personal info...put a thread in the seller's who's who...if both parties cant meet up..wire transaction is the best way to go...paypal is ok..but they will charge you 4% from the total amount...most people requirepayment first before they ship their item... i say this forum is more safer than buying something on ebay...We are a very tight group here......People are very helpful and will guide you all the way...im not saying that you can trust anyone...but only those people who have dealt with one another and with a very good reputation in the forum...if you need questions im willing to help you...just pm me...-oscar

x2 check your references. There are some very good people on here that will go out of their way to help you. Each deal requires a little trust on both ends. For what it's worth, I wouldn't buy a preowned rolex from anyone NOT a member of this board.

I only buy from forum sellers who are well known. I would rather pay a few hundred dollars more for peace of mind. Bank wire or PayPal is ok if I am the buyer. I will only do US deals if I am the seller-too many insurance and shipping hassels unfortunately.

I've sold several watches here and have received payment via cash, US Postal money orders, certified checks, personal checks and bank wire transfers. Personally, I don't take Paypal but some on the sellers here do take Paypal.

Some of the info provided here is "spot on." Check out the seller, ask for references and get a personal dialogue going with the seller via a TELEPHONE. Emails and PM's are nice but very impersonal and you'll learn much more about someone via a phone conversation.

Good luck.

Totally agree with John! Mr. Springer sent me a very fine GMT II Pepsi, and I sent him 4 very fine USPS Money Orders!

Worked out just fine!

Most of the larger dealers operate on numerous forums, I would recommend going to www.watchnet.com to check references...anybody who is somebody in this business has feedback on that site. In particular, check out the Good Guys section.
