FS: Vintage 1950s Tissot Visodate w/Beautifully Patinaed Honeycomb Dial
Up for sale is this lovely reference 6606-1 Tissot Visodate featuring a beautiful original honeycomb dial with gold Explorer-style numerals at "12," "3" and "9." This handsome watch dates from the mid-1950s and the all stainless steel 2-piece screwed case shows little if any polish with well defined edges and chamfers. The honeycomb guilloche dial has developed a wonderful, even tan patina and the unmistakable vintage appeal is capped off by a black/red "roulette" date wheel framed in gold. This very early Tissot Visodate is in Excellent overall vintage condition and its in-house manual wind movement is running strong. With charm to spare this Tissot perfectly demonstrates the subtle and unique pleasures of a vintage watch and would make an excellent addition to any collection, perhaps especially for the collector just beginning his or her vintage journey. The asking price for this wonderful vintage Tissot Visodate is $650 USD OBRO, which includes fully insured FedEx domestic shipping in the US. For International shipping please add $40. Bank Wire is always appreciated but Paypal is also OK on this watch with split fees (+2% to the buyer sorry, no FF). Other payment options upon application. Watch will ship upon full clearance of the funds, as well as any necessary bank vetting. Payment must be made in US DOLLARS. CASE & BACK: Classic and nicely proportioned gent's dress size measures 34.5mm wide (not including crown) by 44mm long. The all-stainless steel 2-piece screw-back case appears shows little if any polish with wonderfully crisp chamfers to the sweeping lugs and sharp definition to the formed bezel. While the solidly constructed steel case has some marks from the years with some light nicks & scratches there are no major dings and its still in Excellent vintage condition. The caseback is dedication-free with a brushed finish that appears to have been re-done and some tool marks/scratches Very Good condition. The inner case has negligible corrosion and all Chs. Tissot & Fils nomenclature of the period is present, including the 6606-1 L reference number. DIAL & HANDS: The star of the show of this Tissot is its lovely textured "waffle" or honeycomb dial with applied yellow gold faceted dagger markers, quarter Explorer-style numerals and gold framed date window. The date wheel is the original red/black "roulette"-style and adds yet another layer of true vintage eye candy to the layout. All original factory printing is crisp and legible and the dial has developed a wonderful and even cafe au lait patina Excellent+ unrestored vintage condition on this beautiful honeycomb dial with only very minor signs of aging. The original radium luminous dots also show a pleasing patina with only some minor deterioration in places. Original Dauphine-style gold hands match nicely and are very clean with just a bit of loss to the original luminous fill of the minute hand Very Good condition and the gold sweep seconds hand is also very clean and shiny. On the wrist, this Visodate with its beautifully patinated dial and roulette date wheel is massively charming and has unmistakable vintage appeal. MOVEMENT: Under the hood beats a nicely finished in-house Tissot caliber 27B-621 16-jewel manual wind movement with date complication and shock protection, as well as a high grade micro-adjustable balance. The date on this watch is true 24-hour rotation slow-set but it can be changed in either direction. While service history is unknown I did buy the watch from a watchmaker who claimed to have serviced it, just not my watchmaker. This Tissot is keeping good time with strong power reserve and proper date changeover. Guaranteed to be the case at the time of shipment. CROWN: Tissot-signed steel crown is almost certainly later, as I believe these early Visodates did not have signed crowns originally, so probably from the 1960s or thereafter. That said, the crown pushes in tightly to the case, smoothly winds the movement and pulls out to the non-hack time setting position exactly as it should. CRYSTAL: Older low dome acrylic crystal has only very minor marks for its age and is very clear easily Near Mint condition. BAND: This great Tissot comes on a new dark brown genuine calfskin strap with generic steel buckle. This watch takes 18mm straps. As a matter if policy I make NO guarantees for the water resistance of this watch in any way, shape or form. This classic vintage Tissot Visodate is offered with a 3-day inspection period from the date of receipt and may be returned for a full refund less any shipping costs incurred by the buyer. This refund is unconditional and once I get the watch back in exactly the same condition as it was sent to you, your money will be refunded. Of course, once the 3 days are over the sale will be considered FINAL. Thanks for looking, T. [email protected] |
