5513 Bart Simpson
Hello friends.
I have been saving for a Submariner to add to my small modest collection (Dad’s Air King & 1970 DJ). I have been researching which model I want as I am getting close to my goal and stumbled upon this model on EBay. I have heard of the Bart Simpson before but never seen one in person. I have decided I want a vintage submariner in lieu of a 114060, 14060. Thoughts? Value ideas? Is the value impacted by the tropical dial? TIA Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Four bidders think it's worth at least 5K. Even though ebay backs buyers, the seller has no return policy. Seems like a bit of a risk to me. Kinda beat up, serial number looks scratched off.

Case back looks genuine – though the case itself shows why you should never use a monkey wrench to get it off
Lume is starting to flake – meaning lots of powder potentially inside the movement – which already has a few butchered screws on it The dial is the least or your worries I’d pass on this one if I were you, it’s already been bidded on beyond its worth. It can be put back together again (it’s a Rolex after all), but add that cost onto the potential purchase price, and it’s simply not worth that …… |

There are better ones from better sellers.
Beware a vintage watch from a seller who refuses returns - only grief awaits you. This one could have been stolen and s/n polished off, or an assemblage to amp-up value, or worse. The one you shared has had long time storage without good gaskets or was not cared for as evidenced by the coverage of dial degradation. Or has been “aged” artificially by a solution and intense heat. You are going to spend $12K-ish and up for a really good 5513 if you only consider the tall coronet dials in the final run of gilt dials with gloss lacquer that isn’t being eaten by mildew. Maybe avoid the whole Bart-trap by sourcing a later matte dial that is in better condition. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Some movement areas and screws appear damaged. Careless work and potential problems.
Pass, and as stated, already too high a cost.
