A friend of ours asked my wife at dinner not long ago what my FAVORITE watch was.
She quickly turned to them with an almost -slightly aggravated look on her face and said, “The next one....” It’s how the hobby goes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

It is an addiction mainly perpetuated by forums like this as well as other social media, podcasts, media like Hodinkee. We are being molded into being non stop shoppers. That is after all what this is right? Post up a photo and see who might lust over your collection while you lust over someone else’s collection

When you realize that accumulating things is not making you happy.

Take some time and when you wear your watch find ways to appreciate what you have, recall memories with it, etc. this will at the least slow down the quest. I actually have more fun in the search, reading, trying on than on buying. The buying is great, but my last purchase, a speedy pro I took a year to decide. Take you time, the fun is the journey. |

Step 1: We admitted we were powerless over timepieces and our lives became enjoyable. Step 2: Came to believe that a Power of a properly wound mainspring could restore us to sanity. Step 3: Made a decision to turn our timepiece maintenance over to the care of our AD, as we understand Him. Step 4: Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of our collection. Step 5: Admitted to God, to ourselves, and the AD the exact nature of our desires. Step 6: Were entirely ready to have the AD remove all stickers from a new Rolex. Step 7: Humbly asked AD to shorten links during resizing. Step 8: Made a list of all persons whose timepieces we desired, and became willing to make amends to get them all. Step 9: Made direct compliments on TRF to people who had said timepieces, except when to do so would result in a bad trade deal. Step 10: Continued to take personal inventory of our timepieces, and when we dinged the case promptly admitted it (and posted pics on TRF titled "Can This Be Fixed?"). Step 11: Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our contact with local AD, as we understood Him, praying only for allocation of His allotment to us and the power to 'get the call'. Step 12: Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these Steps, we tried to carry this message to watchoholics, and to practice these principles in all our affairs. And yes, i just made the above up... kinda sorta... thx AA <-- oops!

Step #1 of Rolex Rehab is taking a break from TRF
I swear. You wait and wait and wait for something. Post an incoming once it arrives. Stay around the forum after and all of a sudden you're craving something else to add. It's a tragic disease we all suffer from here! |

I’m sick of the hyperbolic use of grail. Grail is one. One and only. If you got your grail you can’t by accepted standards of watch nerd vernacular go get another grail. You’re just talking about watches you really like. This is not solely directed at the OP. It has been going on for some time here. Rant complete.

I had a big "lifechanging event" when I retired. Putting the budget and some health matters into perspective has halted my watch buying. However, I have 6 Rolexes, 2 Panerai, 2 GS, and a few "lesser" pieces. Sometimes I open the watch box and look at:
SD D serial DSSD JC DJ41 Blue, Jubilee, fluted Sub C SS Sub C YG Black dial Daytona C Black dial And I think of how fortunate I am, not of what I want next. I DID have many years in that phase though. |

When does it stop? For me I've been pretty much settled with my grail core collection of 5/6 watches for two years now, so from joining this forum, when the acquisitions/enabling really took hold, it took 7 years... so you are looking at being fine and dandy in 2024.

Once you get the DD you’ll say this is a nice watch for the club and a dip in the pool, but maybe I should consider some serious Horology from one of the trinity, Journe, Ferrier, etc.
It never ends, it just gets more expensive.
