Looking for input
I’m at a crossroads.
I have the option of basically new 114060. Or 1680 with service dial, hands and bezel insert. Both look fantastic! I would appreciate your opinion, thoughts or advice and thank you in advance! |

I favor the 114060 for the bracelet and other improvements. I like the large case. Many don't though.

Buy the one you like the best.
Only you know the answer to that. I would normally prefer the 1680, but it sounds fully swapped out with replacement parts, so it would have to be priced really well. I also have a GMTIIC, so the SubC would be too similar for me to own. |

One is a new watch, the other is an old watch..
It's your choice.

114060 as a one and only. If you already have a collection, grab the 1680.

I have owned both vintage and new models of the watches you are looking at and I will tell you the new model would be my choice. Where do I start, new with an active five year warranty and a typical 10 year service interval. The ceramic bezel, super case, better lume, better movement, modern bracelet and amazing Glide lock clasp. I think it is easy to get caught up in the old watch appreciation trend that is very popular now. Some clean it up and say vintage. I say whatever. Old is old. Will you be able to service your older watch? Are parts readily available? Will you be destroying the value every time it needs work? All valid questions with answers you can not give a definitive answer for as the watch continues to age. Go with the modern watch, save the headaches and wear your new watch until it is vintage.

very tough...
I have too small of a collection to worry about vintage. I’d usually take modern option all day. However, I am not a fan of a modern no date version, so I’d opt for 116610. If that’s off table, I’d prob go 1680 because I owned the 114060 and got very little enjoyment out of it as I was always lusting after the date. So I just can’t recommend it. |

114060 is massively comfortable. I could easily see it being my one-piece collection if time and tide forced my hand (or wrist, rather).

Modern for me. I tried a vintage 5513 from about 67 and I eventually moved it on. It was a beauty to wear bu5 for some reason I always thought it felt too delicate to wear carefree. Just sharing my experience YMMV

Thank yuh guys...I’ve had the same feelings have had several vintage but always end up like you Brian...worrying too much...the potential allure was the vintage look but modern parts...but the 114060 is a beauty I had one awhile back and let it go...maybe time to undue that error!

Go with the 114060. It’s the true iconic heir to the 5512. I’ve been wearing mine a decent amount this summer. The bracelet is the best on the market with the glidelock. Enjoy the understated simplicity of the dial.

Am I the only one who saw the thread title and immediately thought of this...
