Some odd bidding on Ebay

LINK

Clock on the bids and notice the bidding pattern. 2 accounts seem to be driving the price up, one of them without even needing to to be the high bidder, and both accounts have a high percentage of bids with the seller. Shame, shame.

My belief is, even though this is not mentioned as the cause, that the reason ebay is going away from the auction format is the shill bidding issue.

We have tried experiments on a few items in the past few years.

We subscribe to terapeak, a service that gives the average selling price for certain items. The problem is that one rarely achieves the higher levels therin.

We see sellers getting big dollars on certain items...double what we get...so we have experimented by putting up the same item with the same descrition in the same category but FEATURING this item and we most often get less.

And from a sellers standpoint, you cannot win. People accuse you of shilling routinely.
Daily.

We always point out the jewelry or silver items that "more than occasionally" bring less than scrap to prove we do not.

I think Steve is right. It is everywhere.

Sad.
