Define Polishing
When everybody on the forum talks about polishing are you referring to the buffing wheels that you see polishing the cases or is it also the manual cleaning/polishing that can be done with a jewelry polishing cloth? I occasionally wipe my case and band with a gold polishing cloth and I've been using PolyWatch on my 16013 crystal to keep the scratches to a minimum and realized it was great for removing the small scratches on the case. Can this manual polishing have the same affect as the buffing wheels over the long term?

pol·ish
/ˈpäliSH/ verb make the surface of (something) smooth and shiny by rubbing it. to answer your question, its more a matter of degree. You polish less with a cloth vs a wheel. Over time its the same as its the same process

You used cape cod or a small cloth? Oh no.. Say hello to overpolishing. Your watch is worth nothing now.
Was already worth nothing since you didnt have a full set and were missing sapphire protector when bought from AD. ... |

Naturally, if they actually talked to a metal finisher or engineer and said "polish my watch", they would get back a nice shiny, mirror finish - not at all what they really want.

Just keep doing what you are doing, OP, if that routine makes you happy. You won't harm your watch. Neither will you bring about a noticeable change in the geometry of the case and bracelet.
It's the equivalent of driving a 4 inch screw in concrete with a hand screwdriver rather than a hammer drill... |

Refinishing is what most people are referring to when they say polishing.

Define Polishing
The following is a great video. Maybe this provides insight to what you are asking. Maybe not. I just think its a great video and felt this could possibly be a thread that i could post it on. The guy does say that “polishing is a catch all term that covers many proficiencies.”
