Guess the DD was the limit for me £10000 used, however I have been thinking about a Patek for £25000, then I realize that I could have a lot of fun for that money. In all honesty I wouldn't spend £10000 on a single watch again. I'll be sticking to steel sports for 4k and under. The SS daytona was the only exception lol!

Good question.

I got my "Rolex for life" in 2001, so I'm not in the market for a new watch. Plus, I didn't have kids then, and now I do, so their needs (and college way down the road) come first. Given my salary and expenses, I think $10K is about the most I would drop on a new watch nowadays.

With that said, when I was Rolex shopping in late '00-early '01 I kind of capped my watch limit to $5K-$7K, but of course it would depend on the watch. I had narrowed it down to the Rolex Yachtmaster (which I got) and the Patek Phillippe Twenty-4 ladies' model. I did not consider the Cartier, for example, to be in the same league as a Rolex, so I would not have spent that much for a Cartier. Likewise, at that time I would have not spent more than $1K on a Tag.

The most I ever see myself spending on a watch is maybe 5k. I want to get an Explorer II at some point, but I think it will have to be used. I just spent some $3,500 on a Rado Sintra (then again I have always wanted one) So the money I saved over 2 years just for the watch most of it went to that. My next watch will be the Breitling Colt GMT. Which is about 3-4k depending. I really would like an AP Royal Oak perpetual calendar, but 23k on a watch? I dont think so.

Right now I save about 5% of my net income for watches. Regardless of what my income is, I don't think I would save more than that unless I had a windfall. Of course I save that 5% over a few years until I meet the mark I am saving for, then I pull the trigger. I wouldn't want to spend more than 25% of my take home on a single watch, so if I needed to replace it, it wouldn't be too much of a burden. But then again some with higher price tags are already calling my name...c'est la vie...

My max would be the price of a SS Daytona.

GBP£5,000 (ish) so USD$8,000??

To be honest I'm too much of a hardened realist to even 'dream' of spending anything more.

For a watch, $150-$200 .... For a Rolex, $4999.99 out the door or delivered... Psychologically speaking, the 4 gives me comfort that I have not gone over my spending limit....

my limit is flexible but it has to be in harmony with my income and assets. if i had millions or billions i wouldn't mind paying an insane amount for something i like.
right now i can't see myself paying more than 6-7k usd for any watch and even that i have to think twice.
the good thing is that i am not that much into really expensive stuff. i love blancpain fifty fathoms for example but even if i had the cash i would pick the simplest version and never the tourbillon. same with rolexes, i do not care about gold or diamonds, the only exception being the daytona wg with the meteorite dial.

Probably about $10K USD and only on a cash basis. My first Rolex (DJII) last year was my toughest buying decision in quite a while...not because I couldn't afford it, but because I had to convince myself that one should pay that kind of money for a luxury item...a watch of all things.

My wife is the one who drove that buying decision...insisting that I should have it (justifying it as the proverbial Xmas/Birthday/Anniversary gift.)

Obviously, I'm glad she did because it opened up an entirely new sphere of interest for me in fine watches...and I found TRF--which, alone, is probably worth the price.

So I will buy another Rollie at some point because, like most who visit here, I am now hooked!

Still not sure

Just spent US$9000 for my first DJ TT a fortnight ago, and it still hasn't settled in.

I type with a soft cloth below my keyboard to prevent any scuffs on my Jubilee bracelet.

what I've learned with my DD..you forget about that price the minute you pay the bill...
the pleasure that watch gives me is priceless...

I don't care about the price, I will pay whatever amount gives me return in value...

Currently have an EVEROSE Daytona in my sights...

i can't see spending 5 figures -
but 10 years ago - I couldn't see spending 4 figures!

the white daytona SS is on my list, and that can easily be found for under $10k, so I'm still safe...

If you talk about one watch at a time, Brandnew daytona's is the max for me.

I'd probably go $8-10K, but I'd have to save for a while to drop that kind of cash. But I never thought I'd spend $6K before I bought my GMT.

Prices for jewelry (and a luxury watch is jewelry) is usually related to income...

If you can drop 10 grand on a tennis bracelet for your significant other, or 20k on a diamond ring; it makes sense to spend twice that on a watch that will last you a lifetime...... or any other figure that you are comfortable with ..........
I love the way you think Larry!
I agree on this!
I think my limit is about $20,000.00 USD on a watch. I'd even buy it used at that if it was a Grail.
