I have one Rolex (new this year) added on my homeowner's insurance, covered for theft and loss at full current retail. Cost is $76/year. Had my previous Rolex for about 10 years before I got around to insuring it. I thought "loss" is what happens to other people and used to tell myself that if anyone thinks they are tough enough to take it from me they deserve to have it. I got over that philosophy as I have grown older, wiser and admittedly, much less tough!

That quote of $600 a year down from a thousand sounds a bit expensive. On a Valuable Personal Property Policy I pay about $6 per $1000 insured.

No insurance, I wear my sub all the time and if something happens to it, then I am likely to have a bigger problem with my arm ...anyway it is just a watch and can be replaced.

I go through USAA from my military days. I only pay $60 a year for watches and rings. I had to up my policy from $45 a year when I added the daytona being over 10k, but I think it is worth it. You never know when you will drop it, lose it, wife chucks it out the window or something. No hassle, just make a claim and watch is covered.

I have mine on a personal property insurance, it is about $175 per year. I do believe that jewelry and watches are more expensive to insure in Canada for some reason. I got a few quotes and they were all about the same. ( same with my boat-all four quotes were within $25 for a policy of about $500 per year)

I have used Jeweler's Mutual for 15 years and I have always found their service to be top-notch. I like the idea of keeping my jewelry policy separate from Homeowners, etc.

Relative to the replacement cost of your watches, it doesn't really seem like that much money.

Generally speaking, in the US, the best choices are either a separate policy with a company like Jewelers, or an endorsement to your Homeowners policy from one of the companies mentioned (or many others) that specifically describes your watch(es) and shows a value. The coverage provided by theses alternate methods is virtually identical. They provide protection against almost everything at 0 deductible. The cost is usually per hundred or thousand of coverage and varies from state to state depending on each company's loss experience with , in this case, watches in each state.
In either situation, if you have a loss, it may impact your future cost (this varies from company to company).
I currently have both my Sub and Daytona as well as my wife's DJ specifically covered via attachment to my Homeowners policy.

Here is another thread on insurance you might want to check out.
I think some people are mis-stating what their policy is. When you call your homeowner insurance provider they write a personal article policy which is separate from your homeowners policy. That is what my insurance company, USAA, did.

The rate depends on your location. You're in KY - he's in CA.

I think it costs me around $40 a year. Oh, and this claim doesn't go against my homeowners either. I also, have no deductible.
In UK I have mine on Home Insurance and I do have accidental damage along with all the other clauses offered with a seperate one. Cost is minimal as long as I keep them up to date with all the price increases. (7 in last 12 months in UK).

I only insure watches worth more than 10k. My concern is once you make a claim, you'll be blacklisted and I'd never make a claim to replace one of my lower cost pieces. Therefore no need to insure them.

Fwiw, I keep all of mine in a sdb and will only have two or three at the house at any given time...
