Are all of you insuring your rolexes

I just got off the phone with my homeowners insurance and its going to cost me 600 dollars a year for insurance of my two Daytona and two patek phillipe
watches that i wear off and on.
They gave me a discount ,it was quoted for 1000 dollars but got it down to 600,its covers all lost or stolen with no deducible on the policy which is a rider on it.
I figured i better do it just in case, i will sent in all appraisals to activate it.It better to be safe and do this ,any one else doing this.

with all due respect i think you would be better insuring them rather than insurancing them

I have mine insured on a personal articles policy, that is completely seperate from my homeowners policy. My wife just dropped it and I have now sent it in to rolex to have repaired, through my insurance company. When I was at the agency discussing the situation, they said it is much better to have on the seperate policy. Homeowners would not have covered the accidental breakage. I think it costs me around $40 a year. Oh, and this claim doesn't go against my homeowners either. I also, have no deductible.

I do not insure mine. I live in a secured building, I have a 110lbs Akita plus .

Still I think I might get a safe installed just in case. Don't ask me why I spend lavishly on watches but I'm too cheap to fork over a grand a year for insurance.

I don't hangout in bars nor am I out all night so unless I get mugged during the day I'm pretty safe.

I have mine insured with Jeweler's Mutual so if I have to make a claim my home owners insurance isn't affected.

Here is another thread on insurance you might want to check out.

For a piece of mind, it a very small price to pay. I have insured both watches as I do wear them everywhere.

Jeweler's Mutual covers Canada as well. Did you click the link? I have some earrings covered in a policy there, but did the Rolexes as a personal articles policy with my homeowner's agent. I figure if someone broke into my house, I might have to contact her anyway and having them together seemed logical.

Cheers!

I have my Sub-C with Jewelers Mutual. $140 a year and I have no worries if I lose it, break it, or it gets stolen. Zero deductible and won't affect my homeowners rates if I have a claim.

That sounds a bit high. My GMT costs a third of that for $5K coverage.

I pay 9 bucks a month for each of my 5 ROLEXES. No deductible and it covers loss, stolen or any kind of damage I cause. Not on my home owners policy, it's valuable personal property floater off my car insurance. That's like 3 dollars a day for all 5 ROLEXES

I'm really happy and have piece of mind at that price, replacement if it's lost or stolen.
That's the cost for my 2001 GMT II, 2010 Blue Serti TT Submariner, 2010 Green Submariner LV, 2007 Yacht-Master platinum/SS and my new 2011GMT IIc.

I just keep it updated as the watch prices rise every 6 months, thanks to ROLEX.

To bad they wont pay for my mods

I guess your dog will help sniff out your watch if you misplace or lose it accidentally...

But seriously - I think any form of insurance always feels like 'dead' money UNTIL you actually need to make a claim - then it becomes one of the smartest decisions you made... IMO - a small price to pay for piece of mind.

I have 2 IWC, 1 Panerai & 1 Rolex Sub all insured with Amica and it costs me about $240/year for all 4. $20/month is a small price to pay for peace of mind on those items!!

Totally understand your point of view but I am the flip-side of that coin...

I only insure things I am legally obliged to, like my car.

To me insurance feels like gambling against yourself. The only way you can "win" is to be robbed or have an accident!

I DO understand the peace of mind that insurance brings but I'd rather roll the dice and take responsibility for my own actions.

I have mine insured (along with my spouse's jewelry and a few other items) with a separate personal articles policy. Doesn't cost much to get good coverage if you shop around. I like the peace of mind, since it will replace lost/stolen/dropped at current replacement cost.

After reading all of the "is it safe to wear your Rolex to _____________" threads on this forum, the insurance gives me peace of mind.

I can see where you're coming from, and as much as I do have different insurances, I don't disagree with your statement.

I actually think that geographics is a contributing factor among many. For example, from what I can see/or can make out, you are located in a rural area where you might personally feel some potential risks may be a little more unlikely to occur. Perhaps if you are living in a built up area, perhaps a city, than there may be more reason to employ insurance services perhaps...

I do the same thing - insured against lost or theft. Cost me less than $100 for my Milgauss and Sub.

Homeowners--Rider

I have our valuable jewelry listed on a rider to our homeowners policy through Travelers. Cost is $12.50 per 1k. Zero deductible and protects against accident, theft, loss in the bar, etc. My understanding is that if you don't have a rider, or separate policy, and rely on your homeowners/renters policy, you will not have protection against accidents, etc., and in the event of a loss, your coverage will be substantially less than the replacement value.

That certainly might be a factor but I actually think that geographic issues are more swings and roundabouts...

My house is about a mile, as the crow flies, from my nearest neighbour. I'd say I'm less likely to be burgled in the middle of nowhere, but might be attractive due to there being virtually no chance of being seen if we weren't home.
I'm certainly not likely to be mugged near home but I'd say that working on the farm there was much greater potential for accidental damage than for a city dweller.

The bottom line is I'm a gambler but I don't back against myself...

When I used to be a jockey there would have been an argument that I should have got someone to put money on other horses in the race for me. That way I'd have been happy if I won the race but I'd have the consolation of winning money if I lost...!
That just ain't the way I'm wired!

By the same token I've heard lots of guys on here say if they got mugged they'd happily hand over their Rolex and that "that's what insurance is for" and it's not worth fighting over a watch.
I take the view that, insured or not, £100 timex or £10,000 Rolex, it's mine, I earned it, and if anyone wants to take it away from me one of us is going to end up in hospital!

Like I say, I know I'm a freak and completely understand the security that insurance gives others.
